Hi all,

looking for any tips or advice; i'm trying to build a bankroll from freerolls. I find i can cash a few and have had a couple of final tables, but i then lack the discipline (moreover patience) and just "go for it" in the micro mtts to try and work it up.. lol it's only pennies of course, but is anyone out there approaching it the same way? do you just look for a single cash then move or keep building for a while?

Low- Middle stakes MTTs used to be my thing, but found alot of holes in my game, variance aside i lacked consistency in play. do freerolls help your game in the long term do you think or is it just a base to get started :icon_bigs

for first 10 minutes you just wait, only play AA - KK - AKo/s.
dont shove, because Open Skill League counted your finished place to leaderboard.
its better to make some points for leaderboard. :D

Hey Jsteppps,

Here is some free advice for you. Maybe you should try the Furguson Challenge. I've been @ it for 2 weeks now & have $55 so far. Basically for Cash Games & SnG's no more than 5% of your bankroll. MTT's no more than 2% of you bankroll. Rebuy MTT's 0.2% of your bankroll. Satellite's only if the target tourney would be affordable according to the 2% rule. Then if you in a cash game and your winnings exceed 10% of your bankroll cash out & level-up. Chris Fuguson did this on Fulltilt poker and turned $50 into $10 000. Give it a try... if you stick to this plan with your bankroll and with a little luck, skill & patience... you'll have a fat bankroll in no time.

Good luck Mate and all the best :D

Ok so I was a freeroll grinder at one point and I had the same issue that you are having. I would grind them out, cash for a few dollars, then bust taking shots at micro MTT tourneys. Recently, I've been fortunate enough to run hot and take a couple MTT's down and have turned my bankroll of $0 into around $700 then back to $200 within a one month span. Obviously I was making some really irresponsible decisions with the money, but luckily the money doesn't really impact my life atm. Through my experience I think taking the shot is fine because the micros are so soft and easy to cash, but don't start thinking you are the best poker player on earth once the money does start coming in.

As for freerolls making you better, they definitely won't. If anything they just teach you how to be patient and fold.

I still play freerolls, before "Black Friday" when I first started there were tons of forum freerolls. I'd play 8 to 10 per day.

It's a whole different game playing against "real" players. But playing here at CC has improved my game very much. But I'm a long way from the player I'd like to be.

Tip 2: play the CashGiveaway games on PS, get the tickets forever u can and play them.

Tip 3: don't play Spin & Go. JUST DON'T DO IT!

They used to give away a lot of money to Americans on freerolls. Now, not so much.

Im trying to be a more active member on this now :) think you have to be active for at least a month so im restraining myself from being a total spammer haha

i've lost faith entirely in the pokerstars open school league - i'm wondering if the premier skill league is any better?

e.g AQ suited bb, utg utg+1, CO and button limp. i just rip it for 24bbs. Q7(o) calls and rivers a straight.....

i guess i mean is there less of the unpredictable plays? lol Im hoping the cardschat freerolls (when i gets there) are decent. I had a decent year last year in mtts with a few K in cashes.

had a silly dream of building a bankroll from scratch. im a true thrifty scotsman afterall :)

jsteppps,
A bit more than one year ago I decided to play in open school league for a whole month. In that month I've played at least once a day and earned 2.5 dollars at the end. A lot of work and wasted time for only 2.5$...

freerolls, unless very specific, are for one reason only - to build up your BR to play good cash/mtt/sng... games.
When I mean specific I mean games like are done by cardschat for example: relatively small field, blinds go up slow, decent prize ~15$. Compare that to other frees where you game 10k+ field and 3-5 min levels, and a prize of 50$. They are a hustle, to get your 10-100$ to have something bankrolly-like

the if the cents dont make dollars, then the dollars dont make sense

or in other words, get some value....monetary and knowledge in freerolls or its not worth it

Im getting those feels! lol will be happy just to scrape the 50c bottom prize with how its been going in my last few tourneys. (back down to 2100 after being top 500 for first half of month :( )

i know they're wild but i think there can be some value to be salvaged as a side project - esp with the premier league as top prize is up to $5000 assuming you're burning 500+ vpps (i think thats the requirements  ) but hmm

considering forgetting the whole build from these tourneys and just use as a side project next month and chart results and knockouts for as much as i play. Highly doubt its a productive form for building a bankroll but could be useful for cash to satellites for the major tourneys. will have a think and probs bring something new for next month... i'll mess about with some excel spreadsheets:D lol

i do believe there's knowledge to be gained from the deepness of some the freerolls with 10k players, heard/ read alot of reg players that tend to avoid the Big tourneys each year because of the variance vs buyins. i'd like to think overcoming these godawful pools talentwise builds character for those real big uns with 25k+ entrants aha :)

Novice players only play better STT, in MTT tournaments you will be much less likely to succeed

I think that Freeroll is impossible to learn to play , as there are many do not value their chips
