Hi Guys,

Really quick request. There are many forums available online for learning about Poker, both paid and free. I'm just interested to know which ones you are using and why? What are your top 5 Poker learning forums? Is it worth joining the paid services like Deuces Cracked and others etc, because I find Cardschat and other free forums to be more than adequate. Thoughts?

Yes, there are paid forums that are very interesting. It has a lot of productive content and is relatively inexpensive.
Of the forums free the CC is one of the best.

I think it is more interesting to buy a course, teams, forums is good for questions, debate ideas. Then yes you come to the forum. I have two online courses, studies on them, and I use the forum to update myself, and to see different opinions, here in CC, I already entered a lot of good information. I do not want to pay for private forums.

Aside from the money, usually free is better. Card Chat and 2+2 are really the best forums. Not sure what "secret" you will learn on other sites that would be worth paying for.

Free = larger, also which is what you want. Not only for the point of view, but also because there is strength in numbers. Larger forums can email and call card rooms and get a response (ie. ACR has its own rep/thread on CC). This is really helpful with getting any problems solved.

There are always people trying to squeeze a nickle out of people. Don't be the sucker.....

if you know what you need, pay to learn is not bad.
but if you don't know, how to pick up the right training program, I believe free is better. at least you don't waste your investment.

If there is a free forum and with friendly members, lots of free roll, like here in CC. Why we should join the paid forum? Spend your money wisely.

Thanks for commenting

Great point about the free ones being larger. That makes a lot of sense. Maybe the paid sites contain more posts by stronger players? As they have money and can afford the subscriptions :D ... but who knows. Just being devil's advocate. There really is an amazing selection of resources out there.

A lot of bad advice doesn't trump a limited amount of good advice. I would not, do not, participate in any paid forums, but I wouldn't take all the advice given on here as good advice. There is plenty of really poor advice and opinions offered on here. Some people are posting just to hit a number, but without the experience or knowledge to be offering advice others should take. It creates a diverse environment of opinions, but when you have people advising others to limp the button with trash hands in order to hit two pair and build huge pots, you have to recognize that it's not all good advice for those who are trying to learn to be winning players.

Absolutely agreed. I think the best example of this advice being totally wrong was explained by Harrington. When you limp and it folds around to the Big Blind, he can't make a mistake by checking and essentially gets to see a free flop. By raising, we force the big blind to make a decision, call or fold. every time an opponent must choose action A or B they can now make a mistake (Put chips in with a weak range etc) and this is where our profit comes from. Also! By raising, we give our hand it's maximum equity vs. enemy ranges.

Example:

We have AQs UTG and open for 4bb. All fold to the loose Big Blind with a wide 12% BB calling range who flats and we see a flop. Our hand has an equity of about 52% here (Give or take) Now, say we had limped instead with the same hand/position, and two fishy passive players came along and the BB checks. We are now 4 way to the flop and facing action from 3 opponents. Our 52% equity heads up has now been eroded down to about 38-40%. There are certainly times when Limping is appropriate. Personally I would only do this when I've got LAGs on my left who are 3betting very wide. In this situation, I like to limp in, allow the LAG to declare their hand by raising my limp, wait for the others to fold it back to me and then flat their raise with {QQ AQs JJ etc}. I'll 3bet them with the obvious monsters like{AA KK AKs}and if my range is flattening theirs i'll consider shoving wide if they're a total maniac. Use limping with taste!

If my paid forum can pay for itself with winnings, is it still a pay forum? One way to do this is to use a trial period.

I was a member of advanced poker training for a couple of months and I thought it was worth it. They have an MTT simulator that itself was worth the money. Plus the video content and session based training options may make it worthy for those with sizeable bankrolls aiming higher.

Having said that if you scour the CC forums long enough you are able to identify players who put a lot of effort and study into their game. Players who objectively and constructively critique play and offer really good advice.

It does not matter how much you pay for a paid service. It does not matter how much useful information is stored on free forums. The main thing is the desire of a person to learn, not to join a large number of fraternities.

I think that to study the game of poker enough free forums. If you decide to seriously engage in the game of poker, then you should think about hiring an individual trainer.

Whoever wants to get paid or free, what is worth is not the amount of information obtained but what you get from them, maybe the paid course has a more advanced language and you are not able to understand, it all depends on you.

You have all Internet to get any information about playing from - why pay? I haven't even heard about paid forums. In my opinion, if someone is talented enough to learn how to play well, he/she doesn't need any "paid" stuff. And if someone is too stupid to learn about playing, no paid stuff can help.

Deuces Cracked is positively overrun with spam. If you want to get some knockoff trainers from China, it's probably the place to go, but I wouldn't invest a dime in it if you're looking for poker discussion.
