It's called a HUD (Heads-Up Display). It makes it easy for them to read their opponents. It collects every hand you played against that player and then spits out numbers related to that (how many times they folded to a c-bet, how many times they tried to steal, how many hands they tend to play, etc). It tells them, for example, how much they fold to a c-bet. If the percentage is 80%, then you can make a c-bet with 72 if you are Heads-Up regardless of what the flop is.

It also tells you pot odds and the odds you have to win, and some will tell you if the call is profitable or not if you aren't good with maths.

As far as I know, there aren't any free HUDs out there. There used to be Elephant but this kind of software require constant patching and they need profits and large teams, so there isn't, and there never will be, a free HUD.

The ones that are more pronounced in the market are Poker Tracker and Hold'em Manager. Manager (or PT but I think it was Manager) recently added a patch where it would tell you all the starting hands your opponent was likely to have. Be careful though, because this has been banned at poker stars and will likely be banned at Full Tilt since the advantage was unfair for non-users. They will make you pay extra for every little thing or for different stakes, so before you do, check out the room rules of wherever you play at.

I've never used any of these but you can go for their trials and check out video demos.

Another one is Hold'em Indicator. This one will even label the players (rock, fish, TAG, LAG, Calling Station) for you and put a little icon next to them so that you know who you are dealing with. It seems more of a "newbie" HUD than PT or Manager but ehh whatever strikes your fancy.

It's 100$.... Hold'em Manager 2 award winning poker software increases win-rates while providing players the fundamental edge needed to move up in limits. Whether you are a recreational micro-stakes player or a high-stakes pro, HM2 is the gold standard for poker tracking and analysis software on the market today.

Wow. Are they paying you anything for that kind of advertising?

It sounds like it was simply cut and paste from the front page of the Hold'em Manager website. If it is paid advertising, HM should ask for their money back. :)

You sound like your a commercial lol I never knew all this kind of software exists but I will play the old fashion way by paying attention to my opponents and betting patterns usually I can get a read. It seems like a lot of hype but I'm not buying it.

Well, it is $100+ (so is PokerTracker4, I think), so it is quite an investment but it pays for itself. How quickly it does so depends on how many hands you play.

You are very lucky if you can remember the traits of hundreds or thousands of players the next time you are at the same table with any of them. I'm afraid that my addled old brain can no longer do that. :D

http://www.holdemmanager.com/store/poker-sites.php

You can get it free if you open an account with some selected poker rooms

Whilst the HUD is useful it is not the be all and end all... As far as Pro Poker players go I would seriously doubt they use it at all for the reason that all Pro Players are obviously very good and the HUD stats would show they all play TAG or close to it... Look on you tube at all the players who make tutorial videos and are playing 6, 8 or more tables at same time ! They dont use HUDs cos they don't have time to take note of players styles... they just play the cards they have relevant to their position and chip stack...

I play micro stakes and freerolls so a HUD is useful for identifying Fish and Maniacs and can help you identify people who shove weak hands and bluff too much as well as other things but at the end of the day when you shove a medium pocket pair against a whale and he flips pocket rockets it doesnt help you that much but still, at this level, It certainly is helpful !

It is a good tool tho for looking back at hands you have played and looking at all manner of scenarios like when you've gone allin preflop or how much you win from a particular position or with a particular hand etc... It's good for analysis

The other day I entered a $75 tournament and the HUD didn't work cos I only had the 'small stakes' version... I came 41st out of 119 entrants... I just assumed everybody was a TAG and played on the strength of my cards, chip stack and position. Not a great result I know but point is I didn't really miss it that much or play any differently than I would have normally...
