I built my initial stack playing the FT freerolls
; it took 14 months to turn $1.81 into $400, and most of the first $100 came from the 2700 player freerolls. I don't think I could do it again under their new format. I played my way into one of the Round 2 tournaments, not worth the time. And the 7500 player games are tougher; they tripled the entry but only doubled the pay line, so it's harder to make the money.
My suggestion to someone trying to build a bankroll on FT from scratch these days would be stick to the multi-winner satellite freerolls: the Daily Dollar at 6:25 EST and the Ferguson sat at 11:10. They pay off in tournament dollars, but you can use them to enter high return, low buy-in satellites like the Daily Dollar .25 + .05 (pays 1 of 4 players). If you're patient and wait for a hand, these are hard to lose. Before long you have enough tournament dollars to buy into the 1.00 +.10 and 2.00 + .20 tournies.
