What are the important free poker tools you are using?
I'm still a newbie and right don't feel it's necessary to pay a subscription fee for that kind thing.

So what are the best free tools out there and what are their purposes?

I mainly play on 888 & pokerstars.

Free only equity calculators. But, you can test holdem manager (free first 30days) and leak buster, then buy them if you want :)

It depends on what tools you are looking for.

You can get stuff like flopzilla, equilab, pokerstove. These are software that helps with hand strength and equity.

If you are talking about a HUD then I don't know of any free ones, but most of them have a free trial.

Try holdem manager 2, pokertracker 4, Jivaro.

They all come with 30 day free trials, give them a test and see how you get on with them, you will find they will help your game and are a worthy investment if you can afford one.

I personally use Jivaro myself because I like the way it looks, it is clean and lets me see the stats I need to. This can also be used alongside pokertracker 4 if you want more detailed information.

Good luck

What about free ICM calculator tool? Shove fold charts? Also what types of software are the guys doing hand analysis using - IE the ones where they have a virtual table and players and they demonstrate / recreate hands in order to analyze them?

If you will looking for any tools/helpers in poker, don,t forget to ask somebody about " does it allowed in this poker room?". You know, some poker rooms can block your account if you will use some programs. So just be care and find more information about this.

+1

Pokerstars especially are very vigilant. I've had pokerstove open from a previous analysis on some hands and then opened pokerstars to have an immediate alert and a follow up email from PS. This was while I was observing the big tourney replays, not even while playing on anything!

I've asked and clarified things with them (about the not playing bit and just observing). They can double check if you bring it to their attention but risk a ban. Please be very careful about using 3rd party software while having your poker client on.

Something pokertracker users may have noticed is how you're unable to use the built in Equity Calculator and the ICM quiz until you close all open poker clients (possible terms of service violations)

Some free tools that may be of some use. I've only used the first 2 but the others may be interesting too

  • Pokerstove (Equity Calculator)
  • Pokerstrategy's Equilabs (Equity Calculator)
  • Texas Calculatem (Equity Calc that can be used at pokerstars?! free if you register and play min hands with their affiliates)
  • Pokerstrategy's ICM trainer - this is what I was looking for really and I think will help me with my MTT game
  • Freepokerdb (free HUD & stat tracker) - Google for reviews and download from sourceforge.net
Edit: Found email from "Pokerstars Game Integrity Team". They sent me a hyperlink for their list of prohibited software.

You guys are talking about some pretty outdated software in a few cases here.

For equity calculations, range construction, etc - The only free software you need at this point is Equilab. If you want to step things up and get the best equity calculator there is out there PERIOD, buy the pro version of Power Equilab. It's available for as low as $5/month which also makes it the most affordable calculator out there. Might as well be free at that price.

If you play MTT's, SNG's, or HUSNG's, ICMIZER 2 is the best software you could own in addition to Power Equilab.

You're welcome :)

I just brought up Power Equilab because @ only $5/month, it might as well be free for any poker player, you know? That and it's so by far the best equity calculator out there (and has so many more functions) that I couldn't see any reason someone would go with something free at this point.

I tried to use Hold Mannager, but it was very difficult to understand, so I gave up because I did not find a good tutorial on how to analyze the statistics available!

Really? It's not that difficult/complicated, man. I've used PT4 and HM2 and although I did go with PT4 in the end (because it's just better), HM2 is also phenomenal software.

What did you not understand? There's really nothing about either HUD that isn't available online.

We have a free equity calculator in DriveHUD. And it also can auto assign hand ranges based on how the hand played out. So there are some simple and free options out there.

I have DriveHUD, use it on BetOnline, and love it. I have the pro version. Quick question: Are villain's ranges established based on just that hand, or on how villain has played all hands recorded in your database?

Thanks!
