Does anyone else find themselves playing much more aggressive than usual during the first half of FR's.

Sometimes it feels like I would rather go out early and play a cash SnG or build a big stack.

+1, there are plenty of mistakes being made in freerolls... No need to be aggressive when the bluffs are so prevalent ;)

I do agree with OP though, I'm a maniac in the first couple orbits of donkaments as well. Often my shoves are called with ATC so why not adopt a heads-up range :dontknow:

During the late reg. period of freerolls I play far more aggressive than I would later in the tournament or in a $$ MTT. Partly because the $ph is so small that I am playing for first only and an early chip lead in these tournaments can be massively beneficial plus it is risk free ie. no buy in!

I am making math based calls often with hands that can flop good equity multi way at these early stages because although there are no antes and the blinds are small there is often a lot of limps and vsmall raises in any one pot and your opponents will make a great deal of mistakes. It is not uncommon to flop a nutted hand and find yourself all in with 3 other opponents as a massive favorite (although it sucks to get out drawn here, but thats poker :p)

yes, i usually did that, was go big or go home.. wasnt workin, now im goin tight, watching the flop if its cheap and goin strong in big hands. works much better, out of 10 freerolls i get in the first 100's in 5.

Hiya Ace, (With a name like that you probably don't need to be too aggressive) - hehe

I think in a freeroll, I tend to play slightly looser, because I know there are gonna be some idiots who go all-in with nothing, especially early on. I think your aggression should be tamed a bit until he antes kick in, at this point most of the idiots have gone or suddenly appear on your table with 20x the amount of chips the average player has. The challenge then it to get yourself HU with them, cos they won't slow down, therefore your oppotunity to at least double up twice will appear.........gl in the future........:D:D:D
