First Casino Attempt

Hey guys, on Monday I am taking my first venture to a real casino, specifically to play poker. I am planning to take $150 with me, and I want to know some general guidelines to make sure I'm successful.

I am going to a casino in Calgary, we are having the Calgary Stampede right now, and I figure this is where all the fish are going to be ( The Stampede is basically a big week long fair, and the casino of my choosing is located on the premises, also on the premises, copious amounts of liquor)

What Do I need to know to be successful my first time out?

Is there a specific strategy that works well for you guys?

What should I watch out for?

Already got my head set on playing the lowest limit game available.

The Calgary Stampede brings a metric ton of drunk, Ed Hardy wearing donkeys during the later hours and since it is on a carnival ground, these guys just go, "I've seen that on TV, I'm so good at poker". Hopefully I can make them eat their words.

I would say to take your time with each hand. There are so many things going on when you play live that you don't have to deal with when playing on-line: actually handling chips, keeping track of pot size, table talk, looking for tells, etc. It can be overwhelming on your first several trips to the casino. I guess the only thing I can add is: if it does get somewhat overwhelming...take a break and gather yourself. It's not a big deal to get up and walk around for 5-10 minutes to clear your head.

Take at least a couple of buy ins for the game you intend to play and try to relax.
