If someone is bad at math and figuring out odds, do you think they even have a chance at a successful poker career? I'm horrible at math but love to play. I know i will never get rich so should i even attempt to learn all that or just go with my gut and basic common sense?

What do you mean "bad at math"? Its elementary math to calculate odds: addition, division etc. You dont have to be able to solve differential equations to do this.

I am horrible at math. My father is a Mensa member and would get so frusterated trying to explain geometry to me. I, of course understand how to add and subtract, multply and divide. I guess I mean trying to figure out the odds if another player has what they say they have or just bluffing. I'm sorry I'm not explaining it right I guess. Thanks though

Well trying to figure out what the player has, has nothing to do with math. Thats limiting them down to a range on the way they have acted. Figuring out odds is actually really easy. For figuring out a rough estimate for the percentage your are gonna hit your outs to improve your hand on the flop take your outs multiply it by 4 that is roughly the percentage you will hit it. Then on turn take your outs and multiply it by 2. That will be a rough percentage you will hit on river. Its not exact but it isnt far off. Maybe by 1-2percent pending on where the cards you need are at (still in deck or mucked in someones hand)

If you have fun playing then keep playing,to be A winning player imho you have to know some basic odds and percentages to be able to calculate your percentages of hands you are favorited in to win, without knowing these basic things you will never full be able to get your money in the middle good.

Thank you very much for your advice. I love to play and generally do ok at micro tourneys but i think that's because i play pretty tight but i'd love to learn more to actually try to make a little money and play my hands to the fullest.

Do you have a poker site yet? If you aren't that good at poker yet and are trying to learn you should try Americas cardroom. It really helped me when i was learning. They have 10 dollar tournaments a lot if you want to start a bankroll. It is also a good site for tight players because of how loose many players play at freerolls and micro tables. As for your question about odds if you aren't very good with them you could always download a poker calculator until you pick up on them. I used to have an App on my phone just to help me in tough hands calculate my odds. That is a good option if you really don't like math.

Poker math is so simple lol.

Poker math is just a tip of the iceberg. I would say around 5% of poker totality.

There are many things to consider and math is just a little portion.

I would say poker is more of a psychology game. Meaning less math involve.

I agree with this a lot.

You don't need to be good @ math to be successful. It is just a guide to helping make some decisions. If you go with your reads, you should be fine!
