Okay, so you did pretty good at a cash game online yesterday. You're feeling pretty good. You like that increase in your bankroll. In the back of your mind, you're already enjoying what it will be like to be making $10,000/mo this way. You can't wait to get back into a game. It's a brand new day. You're happy. You're confident. You're ready to pick 'em up and lay 'em down. The sun is shining, why not make hay? So, you log in and join a game. You're out of sync with the board, but, you figure that will change. You win a hand. Back to out of sync. You get good cards, but your bluff (because they missed) fails. But, you get the back on a ridiculous call against someone who was bluffing you, so that pair of fours you caught was mighty. You get great cards again. You're holding KQ and you hit top pair. You build the pot higher and higher. You end up all in. Donkey boy turns over his calling station cards and shows you a 2-9 off, both of which hit for two pair versus your pair of queens. According to your initial raise, he should never have been in the hand, but he was and now you lost yesterday's profits on just one hand. Yes, you have some choice words for donkey boy. But, your play did not shield against the possibility. You were too eager to advance too quickly. You could have kept the pot smaller, or, dare I even say it, fold top pair, if donkey boy inexplicably wants to raise you, as if the queen doesn't even exist? Falling in love with a hand can lead to ruin fast, when your mind does not want to allow for the dumb luck of others.

You just can't ever be sure unless the river is out and you've got the absolute nuts. There are only 52 cards in a deck. It's always possible someone has the better hand unless you know you have the nuts. It's easy for "donkey boy" to read you and your one pair, and take your chips, because you were over confident.
