Failed in poker so many times. Should I bother with HU?

Long story short, I've never been able to win in poker. Recently I have tried playing microstake cash games (not HU) and managed to beat them for 50k hands but found that cash is not for me.

It might sound ironic but I can't handle variance yet I want to play HUSNG.

The thing is that I have proven to myself that I am able to handle swings when it comes to tournaments ( I have played over 5k games ranging in 9man, 18man, 45man and 90man sng's). The reason for this is that when I play cash each hand can hurt my br + since I was playing rush/zoom all my QQ and KK were never good when it come to pre flop all ins (You are usually up against AA when there is a pre flop 4bet but I just could never lay down QQ+ as I expected fish to call with AK,AQ,AJ small pocket pairs etc which they did on FTP but not pokerstars for some reason.)

Anyway, I have bought moshmans HU no limit book. I just wanted to find out if there is any point in me trying to learn poker? I am an intelligent person as I have always been top student in school so I easily absorb new information yet when it comes to poker I find it hard to apply it in my game.

What I tend to do is I either play my cards and bluff thinking my opponent is bluffing OR I am scared of my opponent. (Speaking about microstakes HUSNG of course) By this I mean that I am scared to raise all buttons + cbet often when I know my opponent is passive as I am scared he will start being aggressive as he will see that I am playing so loose.

Off the top of my head I can say that my main leaks are:

- Hardly ever attempt to hand read - don't know how to put players on a range pre flop as I'd be able to go on from there but pre flop is my main matter(I just don't understand how it works although I've been reading forums + playing for over a year)

- Don't know how to use and how important are pot odds, implied odds, EV etc. (how is it supposed to help you win if you cannot use it during the game? Or at least that's what I have been told. People say that you do it away from the table as it's too complex)

- I think I am always being bluffed so I try to bluff as well

Should I even bother with HUSNG or is it too complex?

Can anyone win at poker if they actually try to learn? I would be a happy person if I managed to start off with a 150$ bankroll (100 bi enough for BRM?) and turn it to 350$ which is 100bi for 3.50$ games by the end of this year.

As for tilt/variance I couldn't set myself stop/loss goals however when I did play SnG's I managed to tell myself I will play X amount of games and stop for the day no matter if I win or lose and it did work so tilt is not a problem for me.

There's more variance in HUSNG's instead of 9 person SNGs. Why not try to get good at 9 person sngs? They are pretty standard to learn.

An honest effort to learn gives you a leg up on many lower stakes players, so yes, you'll inevitably become a better player than at least them. Becoming a strong player is a long, difficult process for some however.

HU is an interesting choice of game. I fancy myself a bit of a HU specialist and it's IMO the purest form of poker. Also, the post above me is wrong, so disregard it. There's less variance in HU SNGs than in 9 mans, but obv HU cash has less variance than HU SNGs.

Your game sounds like it needs a ton of work in its current state. There's lots of material online and on these boards in particular that will help you get started. Be sure to ask whatever questions you may have, and that you understand for yourself any advice you hear or read and why it's sound (or, why it's a load of bull).
