Ever worth p/f to call an all-in with a small pair?

I started wondering this when I saw this:
http://www.dailyhandquiz.com/2010/07/13/sevens-facing-reshove-satellite-tournament/

Hero is dealt 77, raises 2.5 BB from hijack, all fold to BB (short stack, but blinds aren't exactly devouring him) who goes all-in for 4/5 hero's stack, all fold to hero.
40% elected to call here, and I've seen a similar call advocated several times before.

I honestly can't imagine a player type that in the long run this play pays off against, even if as in the example above, you can be certain that you will be heads up.

My reasoning: we should always expect to be up against at least A-<7 (which would be all right), but more likely a higher PP (in which case we're toast) or two overcards (in which case we're not quite comfortable). We also have very low flush or straight odds.

Am I overlooking something (obvious)?
Would having x times the stack size make these calls more worthwhile?
Thoughts much appreciated

Interesting.

Because it's a Satellite tournament and everyone from 1st to 226th gets the exact same prize, I don't think I'd be calling here. You're not in serious danger from the blinds (yet) to where you need to be playing for stacks in risky situations.

If it were a different sort of tournament, my answer might be very different. But for something like this where you don't need to be worrying about massing chips for a run to the final table, I'm not calling here.

If pot odds dictate a call, its a call no matter what your hand (small pair, 27, KJ, whatever).

I'm too lazy to do the math, but in a satellite, folding 77 seems prudent.
