So i'm entering a freeroll with a prize-pool of $3,300. There will only be around 160 people playing and most will be sitting out and the rest will be new to poker and probably don't know what they're doing. The thing about it is the prize is not that spread-out and the pay-jumps are massive. 3rd receives $330. 2nd receives $670 and 1st receives a whooping $2,000. So 1st is a place that I would like to secure. How should I go about it?

average payout to me is between 10-15% of the field so i would expect 16-24 places to get paid with 160 runners as for securing 1st place no one can really tell you how to go about it all the advice given is just people's opinions just play your best poker and hope that it is enough really you need to read a few books on poker but with freerolls you are always going to get your crazies and no books can help you if the person on the other side of the table is insane

Actually you would think so as will anyone but its a set freeroll its just 3rd gets a set amount and 2nd gets a set amount and 1st get a set amount. They dont spread them out in this freeroll. Thats why i really have to get in deep.

Freerolls often have a set pay structure with a small number of winners. Just play your best poker and pick your spots. Keep notes on the players at your table once you get through the early bingo stage and you might want to consider playing "small ball" until you get closer to the money. Gl!

PM me with the details on how I can join the freeroll. I'll take a look at it and let you know right away my recommended winning strategy. :)

With such a small number of opponents, it's really important to keep notes on opponents. How often is the freeroll?

Just play the best you can, and if they are fairly frequent/ you're a fairly solid player you're bound to get near the top at some point. Good luck to you!
