Controlling ones emotions, although we are probably saying the same thing.
Actually there is no most important thing, at least that applies to everyone.

Avoiding Emotions

Well you cannot avoid emotions completely as we human beings we cannot do that. What we can do is control it or keep it in check.Ability to control emotions is a very important characteristic of a good poker player but i wouldn't put it on the top of my list of requirements while playing poker.

I have a made a list for you with most important to least important in order:-

1. bankroll Management.
2. Intelligence
3. Desire and willingness to learn
4. Ability to control emotions
5. Social skills
6. Having some amount of gamble

I'm usually not trying to specifically show some sort of emotion, even if I have good cards or I feel that to can lose.

Controlling emotions is huge in poker without a doubt. If you want to be good, you'll eventually need to figure it out.

It's hard for me to rank, because to be good, you need to have a little bit of everything, and if you are missing some key things, it makes it hard to be a good player. For example, you can be the smartest player and have great intuition, but if you can't learn to control your emotions, you can easily go on tilt after one bad hand and blow everything you have earned up until that point, and have to start at square one. On the flip side of that, if you are awesome at controlling your emotions, but can't figure out how to select starting hands, you aren't going to be a winning player and therefore, your awesome emotion control won't really matter.

So, focus on emotions, but also focus on everything else, and try to be a good well rounded player.

Well, the whole point of controlling emotions is so you can continue to make smart decisions as you play. So I guess without the ability to make good poker decisions in general there wouldn't be much point in being able to control emotions.

I'll tell you something i discovered while playing for a whole week high. You must think that i lost all the time, but to be honest i was truly amazed of my victories. Why? Because i understood the game of another way. I discovered that the game is not just about the cards, stadistics, odds, or anything you may want to think to complicate your mind. Its a lot simpler than that. The system of the game focuses on three main aspects: economy, psychology and cards. Two of those aspects you can control them, the other is based on randomness, but that's where you use your math knowledge to calculate your odds. Anyways i believe psychology is the most important one, and if you are able to control the psychology of the table you will surely win.

What did i learn while i was high? Well that goes far beyond poker, but i will try to summarize it. I realized that we actually live in "two worlds", a natural world and a social world. What would be the social world? An ideology that we as a world believe and follow, but its not more than that, just a complex idea! What we have to learn is to identify at all moments that and "divide your mind" accordingly to those two worlds. I learnt that the social world doesn't need you to get involved with emotions because they are not compatible! You have to use your intelligence, think clearly and objectively. That world is based on actions, so the best way to live it is to think fast and do what you have to do.

What has that to do with poker? Well... simply because i think that i can say that i don't let emotions get in while im playing poker. If im the chip leader and in one hand i loose 90% of my chips i won't get tilt, because i know it's a game based on a system... blablabla and i will keep playing it with intelligence because that's the only way to win (actually luck can help you win too lol). However i use psychology on my advantage. After a loss like that most players will think im tilt, and if in the next hand i get a pair of aces i won't doubt to do a considerable high bet preflop because i know people will call, why? because they presume i acted with emotion, but reality is that i acted with intelligence.
