I have been playing both cash & tourney's, a fairly tight player, slightly tighter in cash games. I am holding my own in cash but not making much but playing very low stakes. Over all it tends to run very hot & cold. The last 2 tourny's got very close to the money but not. I can't figuere out if its my play or the natural wave of the game. regardless I am stuck what do in order to get better.

I know its tough to tell from a simple post but any ideas or comments may help.

Don't put much stock in where you finish in a tournament. Focus instead on the quality of your decision-making. It's an extreme example, but if you get it all in well ahead early on and lose, you would have lasted longer by folding every hand. But would that have meant you played better? Of course not.

I think its also important to be able to change up your playstyle in tournaments. For the most part, I play TAG; however, if I notice that someone is making big bets with terrible cards, I'll loosen up a bit and play more speculative hands against him. Playing tight can work really well, but ultimately you have to adapt your playstyle to the other players at the table.
