Not 100% sure where I got this nugget of info but i thought it was useful.
Good luck all.
Bet them- The drawing hands that you do want to build a pot with are the nut flush draws, pair and flush draws or flush and straight draws, since these hands are likely monsters if they hit! If the flop came down 4-6-9 with two spades and you're holding the 5-7 of spades or the A-9 of spades, now all of a sudden you're a coin flip with an over pair like pocket aces or a favorite against a pair on the board. Because you have so many ways to win, whether there are four or five opponents in there with you or just one or two, you want to begin to make bets that build the pot. A good bet here is 50-75 percent of the pot, because it's cheap enough to keep a couple people involved and well sized so that you are making that pot bigger so you can continue your lead in the hand on the turn. I like to keep as many people as possible in on the flop, because you aren't protecting your hand from anything on the turn, since any of those scare cards that people might see on the turn are cards that make your hand! If the turn is a blank, then you have to make a decision on whether or not to continue to lead at the pot and show strength or not. But in most cases, you should bet something since it increases the chances of your opponents giving up, and if they don't, you still have a bunch of outs on the river.

Like most poker advice this all depends. One of the things missing in the post above is position. I have been beat more times than I'd like by playing out of position. Maybe I was scared off, but the pot odds said otherwise.

With drawing hands you need to keep in mind what your opponent has. He/she may have a higher straight or a better flush. Keeping them in the hand gives them outs just like you.

Personally, on draws I like to win the hand before the river. This can only happen by betting the flop properly.

good advice, it is also known as a semi bluff as far as i know. I just about always bet on draws (sometimes this can also be known as a block bet because people wont re raise you the majority of the time) and a lot of the time it makes people check around to you after the turn also so then u are able to see a free card also you can fire again and a lot of the time they will fold if they have not hit yet, and like you said it continues to build the pot so when you do hit u get a pretty nice sized pot.

Yes they do pay off big when they hit but another benefit is if you semi bluff in position on the flop or turn you can usually see a free card on the next street, or take down the pot right then and there.

semi bluffs are key when drawing because they build the pot and when you hit you can take their whole bankroll

What about when the pot is heads up with yourself being OOP? I've found myself leading out and essentially leaking chips away when i'm not hitting. Although I reckon its still a much better play than say checking then a call, as it makes your drawing hand waaay too obvious imo.

You must mix up your play, a semi bluff should not always be used, and you have to know your opponent. There is also something I like to do every once and a while which is a semi bluff check raise if I feel my opponent is showing weakness, but again, only in certain situations.

If you have monster draws and outs you should bet if there aren't many people in the pot or you could check to induce a bet from someone else if there are many people in the pot. Your play also depends on position, chip stacks, and pot sizes.
