this system was written in 1978, as general data on the game of poker will now help, but poker does not stand still, it evolves every year. I would advise you to find someone from modern regular players and watch their video lessons.

Yes, I've read it and agree there's other books I'd recommend first (Harrington is great.) One thing I got from Doyle is that aggression pays. They check, you bet. Make them make the difficult decision by putting them all in, and stuff along these lines. If I think I'm not playing aggressively enough I run these mantras through my head. :)

I think all books are good sources of information. And, this book is a great one. It probably can't be the only book you read, but it is very good and will help you develop an idea of the fundamentals.

Super system is a great read..
Its storytelling style is really nice n I came to encounter some great events in the the history of poker....
It may not give much strategy about nowadays online poker but its a must read...
its more like a history book on poker mainly wsop the beginning....
Go read it u will love it....

It's a classic book for a reason: lots of good advice, especially on aggressive play. You can never go wrong with having more info and knowledge in your mind. As others have said, read more current books too to see how the game has evolved.

Super System is a good read. It is a good starting point and will give you the basics. As noted, the book is out dated. I would recommend something more current like Small Stakes No-Limit Holdem by Miller or Mastering Small Stakes No-Limit Holdem by Little.

Get Phill Hellmuths guide to LIMIT holdem, is an excellent example of understanding your opponents and cataloging them mentally. Has more NL concepts than you'd imagine.Teaches how to gather information and understanding where you are in the hand*** I cannot stress how important that can be.
People brag about there fullhouse and hitting the flush
A good fold is more impressive in my opinion

I picked up a used copy of this book and I was wondering if I should eventually read it knowing is was published when I was two! ;) I’m doing the 30 day course here first though followed by several other resources I have queued up, but it sounds like this is worth reading eventually even though some of it may be out of date. I decided to search for a thread on this before starting a new one, and I’m glad I did. Thanks for the feedback all!

It's a great book.

If you were only going to read one poker strategy book this year, I would pick a more modern one. But besides really hammering home the value of aggression, there are great stories about the game and it's a big piece of Texas Hold 'Em history.

Remember: Don't get ante'd to death like Broomcorn's Uncle!
