When you are in a good position you have more respect, and players fear of you so you can make blofs or reraise to earn the flop better.

It is always better to have the last option. It allows you to check if you suspect your hand might not be good, rather than check/calling or leading out just to get raised.

Position is KEY!

Are you kidding me? Position is one of the biggest factors in winning at poker. If you have position on your opponent, he acts first, giving you some information about his hand strength.

It's always better to react than to act.

To me at times, it just seems like the whole concept of position is overrated and overvalued. With all the bluffer, and the fast growing population of new BINGO poker players. Doesn't this kind of deflate the position theory??

It matters so much that sometimes, especially in tournament play, it matters more than your cards. Often, it is a tournament +EV decision to play any two, because of positional advantage.

The #1 mistake that new poker players make is undervaluing position.

the only time position doesnt matter is when stacks are short and its all in preflop or players pot commited or if the other player is far greater than you

But even in the latter case it'll probably mean you will lose less chips to the shark :)

I want to thank everybody for their answer. I can see what position Position has on the card table now.

doesnt matter if u hold AA :)
I disagree. It's much harder to play AA from early position than from late position. You're probably going to lose a much bigger pot with AA from early position than late, because if you have to fold, you'll be able to. From early position, however, you're probably going to be betting into a problem or chasing away your profits. AA is a MUCH more profitable hand from late position, as is any hand.

The key in cash games is profit. Every hand is far more valuable in later position; position even changes your starting hand range, pre-flop raising range, 3-bet range, etc. Information is everything and late position gets the most info and thus, is allowed to make the most informed decision to best maximize profits or minimize losses.

It's very important but how i'm loose player i prefer play Super hands in early position. I could improve my game playing many early position hands trying don't giving informations about my hand :)

I totally disagree too in fact,I limp in from early position hoping for a raise in order to get position with AA If not,I'm very leery, then I shove .As opposed to late position were I can just squeeze. Also next time your in a poker tourney watch how many people call when there raised over the top of I can't prove it, but there's something psychological about being in a pot already that makes harder to fold as opposed to not going in in the first place.

Yes yes yes and always always always, even you hold how good your cards are. In bad positions, you easily make mistakes and they make money from your mistakes :D

In position, you can decide easily what action you take next.

Youre last to act so you have tremendous advantage; you can see the action infront of you.

I think at the beginning the position is not as important as at later stages of the tournement. And above all the position have the most importance when you are getting near the last table. I feel a lot better to have a high stack than to contest with a low stack.

YES IT DOES!! Poker is almost as much about position as it is the cards you play. To know how to the values on your mid-range hands change from being UTG to CO or button, can very easily mean the difference between seeing the money, or seeing the rail. Definately recommend checking out a book or two and focusing on the chapters on positional play.

When someone shows they don't much care for position, I immediately peg them for a fish.

Following link provides hold'em EV chart . You'll see that position is a great factor in expected value, as hands in later position almost always win the most of any hand and also have a consistent pattern at winning money.

As you can see in the table that the expected value for some hands like 77 become negative to positive as the position changes. This table will give you a pretty good idea of the importance of the position in a poker table.

Position is one of the most important part in poker. Playing with postion give u more capabilities. You see what opponents do on each move.
You can look for tables in where You have shown which cards you should play on different position, (when no one calls/raise, when someone call/raise etc)

One of the most important things that position affects is the value of good but non-premium starting hands. For example, in a preflop situation at a full table, you should be playing a hand like A5 or KJ much differently from early position than from the button or the small blind, and if you're not, this is a huge leak. Weak Aces are excellent hands for raising from the button or SB in unopened pots, but raising with them UTG is often a recipe for disaster. The value of small pocket pairs is also extremely dependent on position.

Poker is a game played with incomplete information, and being in late position gives you the ability to make decisions with more information than your opponents have. This becomes especially important post-flop, because this is where the real decision making becomes necessary.

but, if deepstack...one of the most important thing on poker.

playing ip or OOP?

i hear a lot of try and play in position i understand why completely ,but when you get a hand it doesnt matter to the cards where you are , i often find myself trying to secure 2 cases i point , ive just been dealt aq in the sb , at the same time on another table qq in the sb , i raise with both , regardless of how the hand turns out im out of position but im still gonna play the hand right? so when people say try and be in position , you dont really get a choice with decent hands they come when they come , can anyone put me straight
