Do you usually bet with a flush/straight draw?

You have a flush draw in LP.

It checks to you.

Do you check to see the next card free, or do you bet, hoping to take the pot with some fold equity?

I know you don't have much fold equity if there are more than 1-2 players.

IN GENERAL....

Also, how does this vary if you have deep stacks vs. small stacks.

I always make at least a minimum bet on a flush draw to grow the pot a little bit but am more than willing to fold to a big bet behind me or by the blinds.

It`s wisest not to always follow the same rigid plan in any recurring situation, otherwise you become easy for an observant opponent to read. Therefore, where there is more than one viable line, choose your preferred one, but be prepared to mix up your play by opting for the less favoured option from time to time.

In this case, bet the draw about two out of every three times, I`d suggest.

Ok, so just to start this conversation, is it safe to say that NEVER betting the draw if it checks to you is not standard play? ALWAYS opting for the free card to hit is not the way you always play?

I do it 50:50. To do small raise or get free card.

Its great if you raised and flush is completed. Then after your check lots of players will think you were scared by possible flush (works only on micro stakes).
Check/call in such situation can be then very profitable on river.

If im IP and its checked to me and I flop a draw, im near always making a 40-50% pot bet to semi bluff hoping to take the pot down there and setup a turn bet if my opponent calls. Unless you feel your opponent hit the flop strong betting draws is standard. If you think your opponent did hit the flop hard, feel free to check and take a free turn card as you don't want to get check raised and be in a tough spot.

I think it depends on what the action was pre-flop. Did we raise? Did we call a raise? Did we limp? Also board texture is kind of a big deal. I would be betting here, especially if we raised pre-flop. I'm also betting here, more than not, when we call a raise pre or limp. Since we have position, and are checked to, I believe we should be semi-bluffing here in an attempt to win the pot without having to hit our draw.

Depends?

on stack sizes, position, and player habits i like usually for someone else to build the pot for me and hope i get there, sometimes betting out can fool the others when it comes

It depends on the action made preflop, but generally in this case i will make a bet of 30 40% of the flop, if the oppenement call and you didn't hit straight or flush then you will got a free card ( unless he donk bet the turn ). If you hit on turn or river you will get a nice pot.
I will do that when getting two big card ( Aq, QK , AK JQ etcc...) in this case if you don' t hit flush or straight you have a good probability to get a top pair.

This is a classic "situational" question. It really depends on the table dynamic and your opponents. If they're checking to you, are they likely to check-raise?

That said, as others have mentioned, mixing it up is sound strategy. Some of the time, you could be on a nut flush draw and somebody behind you may be on the same flush draw and will be more than willing to pay you off on later streets. I think not leading out causes you to lose out on value long-term.

I basically NEVER bet when I am on a draw, and just take the free card hoping to hit.

It sounds like it's not the worst idea, sometimes. Gotta work that fold equity.

Well, you have to mix things.

Its not only fold equity that is, it somehow conceal your hand to your opponents.

Do not overbet with draws you can stand back with nothing after the river only a lot of your chips in the pot and a very sad fold

Yea, I'd only try it on a passive table where people are folding. Depends on the board. For example, no PF raise (no pairs), and most people chasing QKA, with a low rainbow board, for example. And in late position. Checked to me, etc.

is it tournament or cash?
Aggressive or Passive Table?

What is pot size and what effective stacks?

Do youy also have overcards ?

As already said, whatever your decision dont always stick to the same decision

Also if you bet and are shoved on are you going to call, think what if when you bet

So true I totally agree. I do also make a minimum bet and see if anyone raises. It also depends on cards of turn and river. Someone might make a full house by river.

I usually try to mix up things. I dont always bet on straight or flush draws. I never bet on gut shot straight draws. my decision of betting also depends on table dynamics. I also bet in such a way that , if i have to get out i can get out cheap

If I have the chance to semi-bluff, I'll take it most of the time unless there's an aggro player which I know could very likely raise me.

I might even sometimes raise draws to mix my play up, I get fold equity and if my opponent is strong he is less likely to believe that I'm drawing and I often stack them once I make the hand.

seems like a very situational and player dependent question

if you want them to fold and think they will- bet
if you want them to call and think they will- bet
if you think they will check raise you and you dont want that just check

If I have a flush draw I make a small bet to see the turn and to make my opponents to fold.
If I have a straight draw, I usually try to see the turn as cheap as possible. If someone makes a bet I pay it just if it is too expensive or it depends of my feelings in that moment.
I think I have more chances to win having a flush draw and that is the reason why I'm braver having the posibility to make a flush than a straight.
If I have a deep stack and my opponent has a small one, I become more agressive betting more to make him fold.

If he's aggressive, I'll probably just check even though i'm the statistical favorite. Because I'm a favorite with 2 cards to come and I want to realize all my equity. The main problem is it may be a scare card that shuts him down. But it's worst to get shutout by a big raise on the turn, then you are the dog. Also depends on whether I'm drawing to nuts or 2nd nuts. E.g. a 1 card straight that can be filled with 2 cards higher.

Against a passive I'm more likely to raise. If he folds he definitely woulda folded if I hit. If he calls then I know he's got something and can try to stack him. Since he's passive, I may be able to blocker bet him.
