Patience and more patience then some more. The main thing in tournaments is to wait out your opponents and make less mistakes. if you do somehow get a huge chip stack very late in tournament its usually pretty easy to steal some blinds and antes. Most players wont even contest because of the thought of being eliminated on the bubble.

No one single secret, just trying to play mistake-free poker is not normally enough to do well in these freerolls. (& a bit of luck)

I try to play strong hands aggressively and discard poor hands to avoid losing chips. Esatar must pay attention to the other players and get information to analyze your game.

Hi Boss... I play the freerolls and micros too... My strategy is to play super tight initially and let the fishies eat eachother... Hopefully I can get some decent hands in late position to increase the chip stack but surviving the initial stages is obviously key... If I get short stacked then yes I will shove marginal hands but if the blinds aren't rising too fast then patience as already stated above... Also ! playing tight can gain respect from good players who will respect any raises you make and perhaps fold hands they wouldnt to other 'looser' players, but fishies will just happily chuck all their chips in behind any Ace crap LOL...

Play smaller entrant games. More chances at making a final table that way. Those 6000+ player games are really really hard to run deep enough to make a final table once or twice a week since there's usually 15 million+ chips in play and if they're turbos you're playing it's even more tougher with peoples shove garbage strategy even when there's only 50 players left but smaller games 500-1500 players you'll have a better chance at making final tables

patience is a huge factor when you want to run deep in a MTT, you can NOT just play a hand cause you are getting bored of folding and the hand looks nice, Also wen you are deep in a tournament most players tend to play alot of garbage hands cause they have a big stack and it wont affect them which is not the case.

I only play freeroll tournaments, but here is my advice. Play tight at the start as others have said to avoid getting sucked out by the fish. Later on when the blinds get bigger you'll notice players slowing down because they are trying to limp to the money. That is when you want to turn up the aggression. You will get a lot more folds for easy money and can steal a lot of blinds from these weak players.

Just remember that a lot of things have to go right in order to win. Be cautious on not making mistakes and always question your game and see what went wrong.

Just use position! open up your ranges in position. one of the coolest vidoes i saw about position was a 180 person sit n go BLIND win from Annette Obrestad! She even folded aces UTG without knowing it because every hand of hers was covered with a sticky note! So no secret, just play right and one day your odds would be on your side to take down a a fatty and getting out of those micros!

no there is no secret

play a lot and you start to pick up on the nuances of how to play at the beginning how to play close to the money how to play at the final table etc.

and there is always element of luck

you could play best poker of your life but run into bad luck and you wont even cash

you could play terrible and make lot of mistakes but get bailed out by luck too and win

just the way it goes sometimes

poker is a very complex game

its why i think poker AIs are terrible but the best chess AIs are pretty much unbeatable except for maybe 1 or 2 best players in the world

good luck

Tournament play is about being patient and making it to the end not risking your chips unnecessarily. When your in late tournament when everyone is jumping in pre flop no matter your hand I find it better to fold that will bring you closer to the final table let them eliminate each other.

Think first before pressing buttons.

Don't tilt when you run your KK into AA just before the bubble. It's going to happen...

Play tight in the beginning. If its a regular tournament, even regular turbo, don't feel the need to get it all in with AK preflop in round 3. Know what I mean?

One thing in Tournaments is at micros, they are such shovefests. Trying to find the balance of aggression and getting paid on your good hands would be a major focus to me if I was playing tournaments everyday.

I won a ticket to the Sunday Big Ticket $125,000 GTD at Carbon, and a friend of mine was railing me. He told me to play to build my stack early, but the closer I got to the money, the tighter I should play. Then when I get in the money go back to playing like I was to start with.

For me, I don't like playing the beginning stakes in a tournament with big hands so I stay conservative for the most part. This allows them to bet into you when the blinds are low rather than better out with a monster and having everyone call because 4 times the big blind looks scary when blinds are 15 and 30. I typically bet 3 times to keep it 90 and under 100. That way you scare off the people that want to limp in but grab some of the KJ off people.
