Hi there ,

I'm running my poker clients on linux using Wine.. When I tried to setup Pocker Tracker on Linux last time it was horrible UX experience and doesn't work for me correctly.Other way I'm pretty feeling comfortable with my hands and decisions while playing MTT. I'm wondering is it possible to make huge bankroll and good runs without this stats and improvement software for poker players. I also tried Jivaro on Windows it's nice but I also stoped using it.

Anyone had similar experience?
Thx

The short answer is "no", you don't need HUD or similar programs to help your game.

If you are a solid player, you can win without its help. The question is that HUD provides additional information that does help, can it increase your winnings? I think so.

Poker is a game of information... so the less you have... fill in those blanks.

I would say yes.
Yes as in get better in the hand to hand knowing how your opps play, and yes as in improve your game, find leaks bad calls/folds/raises.
If not for the first i would definetly use it for the 2nd.
+ therss is a big diffrence at what you play. At MTTs HUDs usually are not as effective. Blinds grow, an UTG sometimes needs to push PRF with K4s, in cash thou you have conistant stack and blinds ratios you can use HUDs to their full potential.
But to answer your question:"Do I really need HUD or similar software?" - no you can play without them and win

Ohh, I want to get some HUD software, but I have same problem as you - I'm running Linux, and none of HUD applications seem to be working correctly. :( But I think HUD can help you identify your leaks and improve your game in general.

I follow several pro players in the Youtube, and some use huds, some not.

I made some experiences with huds, and I think it's really helpful, but I think it's too expensive to a recreational player like me, so I'm playing without it.

To use a HUD helps, but is not obligatory. First of all, you MUST know how to use it. If don't know about ranges, it's just a lot of graphics and numbers.

In my opinion, softwares are really important for multi table players, because it's almost impossible you can set all players styles when you're playing 4, 8 or even more games at same time.
I think you can totally play without it, but if you think about play poker to make money, it's a good investment.

Anyways, I saw a free HUD in the net, designed for LINUX. There is a version for Windows, but looks like the installation is veeery complicated, so I didn't try it. But Linux users are not afraid about that, don't you? :D

You can find it here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/fpdb/

HUDs are very useful.

I am no expert on Linux but I imagine there is a workaround for your problem somewhere. Try to go for a general solution and not specific for poker applications.

f you are not going to use a HUD I recommend one of the sites that does not allow them such as ignition that way you are not playing at a disadvantage.

You can run a HUD on ignition. You just can't track players long term, but you can still run a HUD with DriveHUD or one of the catcher Apps.

Or run WindowsXP in a virtual machine like VirtualBox.
I find it much easier and more reliable than trying to use wine.

Of course you can improve your game without the help of programs associated with statistically, but the processes will be faster and easier.

If you are a starter of course you dont need it yet, but soon, when you improve your game it will be of good use if you start playing regularly

HUD is an excellent tool to improve your game, but if you are going to play in few tables, you don´t need it quickly. You can wait your game goes to a high level and then, invest your money / time with a HUD.

If its for freeroll you don't need one , they play ATC so what's the point .If it's for cash game , like one said before me is essential and without it you cannot make the best decisions . On a tournament , it's less helpfull than a cashgame , but still gives some info , if you want to have a deep run you need all the info , so more or less , important or not , you need it , so take it . The HUD is an important tool . I see now they have a great advantage whoever has it and uses it right :(

As I know HUD programs will help you to make the best decission sometimes , but as negtive part you will make a stupid call.
Anyway you can learn to play without hud programs , but if you trying to play 4-10 tables as the same times , then i think they will help you.
Thanks!

not really... but most of the HUDs right now has free trial for 30 days.
Depending on the site your playing, you can have around 3~5 months worth of free HUD.

for dual boot, you don't need wine tho

I have many multiple boots as well, (several machines each with multiple disks all with multiple partitions), for my many different purposes,:)

but I find dual booting brings in other problems,
like having to log out of the primary system to use the other, inefficient use of disk space, and the unexpected little things like having to correct the double daylight saving time adjustments twice a year,
but mostly just the hassle of the process to swap between the separate operating systems and only being able to use one at a time.
On a normal day I can leave all my documents open and apps running and just flip in to a virtual machine window for a bit of poker.
(Thinking about it now I'm wondering why I don't just use an old laptop for the poker).

Yeah I'm running VirtualBox with Windows also sometimes

:icon_thum It is pretty good, quite easy, useful and actually works quite well.
