Hey everybody,
A couple of months ago I had some time to kill so I downloaded facbook poker on my smart phone.. after loosing my ass in about 4 hands, I decided I wanted to actually learn how to play poker. A quick google search later I found CardsChat and have been reading/playing play money since.

So I'm trying to scrap together some money I can afford to loose, I'm thinking $50-$100. The question is should I get HM before I make my deposit, or just deposit and play?

Deposit. You can get trial versions of PT3 (60 days) and HEM while you learn.

This

A HUD is going to be about 10 bis at 4nl (39.99$) Use the trial for now and then pay in the future

Hey xdeuceswild81xx, I got your PM, but it wouldn't let me reply yet. Thanks for the invite, I'll catch you some other time.

Play. In terms of learning and improving, all the tools in the world are no substitute for playing. Fortunately, it's not an either/or situation. And there are more tools such as books, forums, videos that you can also use at the same time.

I would play a few months at the lowest limits just to get my feet wet before trying HM. Once you get settled down and do more research/reading you will figure out what you want HM to tell you. Then try out HM if you think it will help.

Surely to start playing is advised, although you always can start from zero from freerolls, but usually there are many other benefits connected to deposit.
Until you have a large base of hands, you can replace hem by watching the opponents yourself, it can be considered a big help for masstablers who have a large sample of hands for many opponents from tournaments played together.

If you go to the HM website it does have a few places listed you can get HEM for free with a deposit and certain amout of rake. Don't know the sites offhand, or if where you live.

I was looking at getting an HUD too, and one thing I noticed is that Hold'em Manager is only supported on specific sites. I'm not sure if Carbon is on that list so you may want to double check before you make a purchase.
