Recently, I was moving some book boxes out of storage.... came up tons of poker books. Two of them I think are very good and underrated. They
are Barry Shulman's 52 tips books which is great for beginners and intermediates, small but chockfull of info.
Most obscure book: i'm sure it isn't the most obscure... but i nominate angel largay's book. Forgotten really excellent book: King Yao... very nice book........ multi-millionaire options trader who also played poker. We should have poker book awards here!

Which ones will you nominate?

one's i've seen all seem very similar and very dry. i'd love to hear of more exceptions though. i tend to prefer current poker magazines and short strategy articles, like Poker Player

I thinks poker books are great, but I feel like watching strategy videos could be as good. Some great Youtube channels are "Alec Torelli" and "Doug Polk" good luck

Hold'em strategy from Negreanu.

Books are all good if you're looking to educate yourself but I cannot stress enough how important experience is overall. Experience will trump any education you may seek, it will help you grow as a player much more rapidly given any situations.

This is not to say education isn't important, it is very. Just not quite on the level of living it out yourself. Each situation is different in poker.

For first timer or beginner players, i would suggest "Poker by the Book"
This book will tell you what poker fundamentals you need to strengthen.

Modern Small Stakes,Crushing The Microstakes(BlackRain79)

Hey, I was looking into purchasing "Crushing the Microstakes," and just wanted to know what specifically about the book did you like? I'm curious because I've heard many positive things about it, but there are so many books now about small and microstakes that I wanted to clarify why this one over others. For instance, is it the strategy he employs, or just his explanations and examples? Thanks in advance.

I'd recommend "Kill Everyone" for whoever wants to get deeper into tournament poker, and also its sequel "The Raiser's Edge" (more advanced).

Also, "Crushing Online Sit and Go's" by Greg Jones is pretty good.

Lots of traditional books are kinda of out-to-date (like the Little Green Book), I don't think that would help. But Sklansky's "Theory of Poker" is always good for who's starting, cause it gives some theoretical info that never gets old.

Hi, I am the author of these two books and I post here on CC from time to time. Others can comment on what they like/dislike about them but here is the general synopsis of each.

"Crushing the Microstakes" is for NL2 and NL5, FR, 6max and zoom. Exploitative TAG approach with probably a couple dozen example hands scattered throughout. Tons of theory discussion and what to do in every situation. Table of contents and more info on my website.

"Modern Small Stakes" is for NL10, NL25 and NL50, FR, 6max and zoom. Exploitative TAG approach once again with over 100 highly detailed example hands. Once again theory on every situation imaginable as well. Full table of contents and more on my website.

If you have any other questions, just let me know.
