If you get dealt trips, for example I was playing a game and just got 8858 on the button and was facing a raise from EP. In omaha I would think that this is a bad hand to get because it makes the chances that you get a set a lot lower so imo I would fold that hand because the chance to improve the hand is so low. I'm just starting out learning omaha so still trying to figure out some of these technical questions. Thanks in advance!

You are right, being dealt trips in PLO is not a good hand. I had a coach once who told me to imagine you had a genie, if you cant figure out what cards to ask the genie for you need to fold. So with your 8885 hand the only card you can think to ask the genie for is an 8, and then you only have a mediocre set.

It is a simple calculation. For hold'em players it may look good at first glance, but when you play omaha more often, it is a easy to fold hand.

Getting Trips is never good since it greatly limits your options. Instead of playing 6 possible hands (each card matched with another) you are down to pretty much 2 options with one gimped by a card already out of play.

Getting 3 of a number in your hand for Omaha is usually a bad omen. Good fold hand.

the biggest thing to remember when playing any Omaha variant is you must use 2 cards in your hand only 2-your set you was dealt was an easy fold,it only left you 1 outer to improve on your pair

:ah4::ac4::ad4::as4:

Many 'good looking' start hands in omaha are bad news.
Dealt quads will only ever be a pair.
A dealt flush limits the opportunity to actually make a flush.
The same with straightening cards.
All you can really do is appreciate the aesthetics of the cards you see before you have to let them go without wasting any chips on them.

Trips and two pairs like AA77 or any other non connected,non suitted hands are worst in PLO.Hate when see guys raise and push all chips with aces,but thats why is good play pot limit,after they stand like chimps with open mouth and wonder wtf ?
