Check-raises generally mean a strong hand. But if you have a good hand how should you handle it? Is it a bad idea to just call? I've found people check-raising with draws and mediocre hands so I wouldn't want to fold just because of this.

It's dependent on opponent's image and stats. Also, your own hand strength comes into lay and you need to weigh up all aspects and make an informed decision.

it just depends on how the player plays. Some check raise with ace rag.

all depends on you is the player. take your time with your decision tho.

Be sure to make notes on people that do this and see if there is a pattern. I have a reg at one of my tables that only check raises when he has it. Never bluffing. Not once.

Vs people like me who is likely to check raise out of position to nearly any bet then you will definately want to reraise to test it, i am also check raising when i hit, but if i hit weak and you show that much agression (i have AQ board KQ2) i am going to fold, it is not often i am going to be hitting the set.

Against a tight player a check/raise represents a lot of strength and I'm mucking top pair in a heartbeat. Maybe even two pair, depending on the details.

If I'm against someone who I feel will always bet if I check, then I'll check/raise them light. So if you are against a smart/tricky player who thinks that you are going to bet light, then calling or betting back has merit.

But for the most part, plays mean what they appear to be, and a check/raise means "I am strong and wanted to get more of your money in."

I suggest getting a good feel of the table before making any decisions like that. I like playing tight early to take time to learn about the opponents before risking anything.
