Has anyone read Crushing the Microstakes by Blackrain79? I am considering buying it. I have read some of his other stuff, it seems pretty good. Is the book helpful, does anyone know? Thanks.

I wrote this book so I might be a little bit biased haha. So I will let others determine how helpful it is.

I pop in here from time to time on CC though so you can feel free to pm me with any questions. Email is an even easier way to get in touch with me.

Since Nathan showed up let me take this opportunity to thank you for your work and especially for making videos again. I have your free book, get your newsletter and read your blog regularily. I hope doing it in public will give you more joy than an email. I would like to get your paid content too, but for now I have none of your given payment options. I boycott paypal and don't like credit cards for security reasons. Maybe I'll get a prepaid one, where risk is limited. Have you ever thought about letting it been translated to German? Maybe that could be a deal for both of us? If you're interested let me know here or via PM and we can discuss it via email or IM (skype or discord, whatever you prefer) and I can provide you with some info about my professional experience. Needless to say, I've no problem with signing a reasonable NDA.

Never heard of it, but thanks for pointing it out!

There definitely is different strategy involved at the microstakes level.

CrushingMicro...

Thank you for all of your feedback. Nathan I have read your free ebook and it was helpful, I like your blog also. For the person who asked, it is mostly about cash games. A couple of things I have noticed already in microstakes that were mentioned: it is true that it is hard to believe some of the hands people call with in micros; and also I have been drawn out on so many times it's not funny. I read somewhere else that the reason I don't draw out on others nearly as much as I get drawn out on is because I am not in the hand that late; I need to remember that. In the long run, the player playing the odds wins.

I really enjoy reading Nathan's blog posts as well, and really enjoy his hand review videos that have been coming out recently. I have read the free book, but not any of the other ones yet. I think most poker books would help, because they get you thinking in the right direction. I'd imagine Nathan's to be good, if not better than others and probably help a lot more than some of the other books out there, because a lot of books are geared more to higher limit play, while his is geared more to crushing the micros.

Sorry about the current payment options. I might try to fix that in the future. I actually have done translations before. Crushing the Microstakes is available in Spanish and Russian (as well as English).

At the moment though I have decided to not do any other translations. I appreciate the offer though. Thank you for the kind words also.

Primarily cash games since I am a cash game player. I do think that many of the same concepts discussed in the book will help in low stakes MTTs especially in the early and middle stages when the stack sizes are comparable to a cash game.

$20 as mentioned.

Crushing the Microstakes was first released in late 2011. However, I don't write poker books like every other poker author out there. My poker books are all digital only (pdf, mobi and epub).

This means that I am able to regularly update them when I see changes in the way the games are being played. This is something that you cannot do with traditional print books.

nope, it will not, like the author already mentioned, it's for micro stakes cash games.
Take your time and read those comments posted before you ask question like that.
:)
On the other hand, you can start reading some Strategy articles, on every page here on CC forum.

I've read CTM. It's solid material written in a down to earth style that's easily understandable and doesn't require an advanced math degree to grasp the concepts. If you're looking to improve your cash game at the micro to small stakes level, you should plug into Nathan's material. It's priced fairly to make it affordable for the average player. There's text format as well as videos available, PLUS Nathan gives away a ton of free content on his blog all the time.

Haven't been in this thread for a while.
Sorry about the current payment options. I might try to fix that in the future.
Rereading my post I realize, that I've forgotten to ask the main question, which I'm thinking about for weeks: Could I pay via p2p-transfer on pokerstars? I'd be glad to do that.

Yeah, I had seen it is available in Spanish and Russian, too. Since you have been "going international" already (besides of English being almost a lingua franca) I wondered if you want to add another language. After all the German speaking market is not small. There is some tough competition but tbh I'd rather purchase your books than (let's say) buying gold status on (let's call them) ps.de

As mentioned by another person, my book will not be helpful if you play hyper turbos. Better to look for another book specifically focusing on a fast structure game like that.

Unfortunately I cannot accept poker site transfers anymore for my books. They don't like it and you can't really blame them. Only the payment options currently listed on my website.

I get a lot of requests for additional translations with German being a very common one.

The reason I won't be doing anymore translations is because while this book in particular has been wildly popular (and continues to be), it is not exactly ever going to be an international best-seller. I am just a small indy poker author after all.

In order to justify the massive under-taking of translating a book, promotion, editing and so on, you need to be writing for a really big-time audience.
