Would you have laid down? This was the first hand I saw this guy play past the flop in about 35 minutes so I had no reliable reads other than he is tight when selecting his starting cards. Looking back, because the flop has 2 suited cards I should have bet 3/4 or the pot. At the turn my check looks weak and gives him the initiative. Again, I should have bet 2/3 or 3/4 pot.

All constructive criticism welcome.

Why didn't you fold pre

I am learning my starter hands still so I'm following a TAG sheet I found on-line. k9 I play from cut-off or the button. Here I was cut-off so I flat called. I probably would have folder them if they were unsuited or if anybody raised.

We should only play a speculative hand like k9s from the cut off when it's folded to us and we're raising. Don't just start playing from a sheet. I highly recommend you read Phil Gordon's little green book and this: https://www.cardschat.com/forum/cash-games-11/why-you-betting-189182/

This is embarrassing, it's the one poker book I have read and have made notes on. But I couldn't fathom Phil's starting grid. My bet was speculative, as nobody raised pre-flop I figured 9 would be a big enough kicker if I hit a king and there was flush potential.

As for playing from a sheet. I understand poker is a game of circumstance and I try to take these into account during my play but as a newbie I like these guidelines.

I agree you should have folded pre flop. but at least you at very low stakes and that is the place to learn the basics of the game. However you will find very quickly that because the stakes are so low, there are twice as many donks and rookie players. You will want to move up in stakes to get more meaningful leanings.

Thanks. I appreciate the guidance. The starting hands I'm following is in this link:

Any comments on it as a basis for learning?

Nice fold. On the turn, I would have done a continuation bet of another 13 cents, to shake him, but if in doubt, nothing is wrong with folding and saving ammo for a better hand.

Just play more and you get experience of what sort of hands you should be playing and how well they do. I used to struggle with starting hands but just playing alot has taught me what I should and shouldn't play.

I see you're from Manchester, you a City fan by any chance?

Just keep playing and learning from articles here. You really need to read. Also, posting hands in the Hand Analysis section will definitely increase your knowledge.

Nope, I'm a Red. I do like having a sheet as a general guide.

I'll have a look at the why betting part of the LGB and see if I can improve my game that way. Note taken, in future hand analysis posts go in that sub-forum :D

haha and I've never see so many blue shirts in Manchester city centre since that unfortunate day.

No I don't use any tracker and I don't know what they are.

We were wearing them, but nobody noticed us then ;)

Donload Pokertracker3 (PT3), helps you evaluate your game as well as keeping track of othe rplayers so you can multitable and still adjust to some players. Free 60 day trial as well.

It's a great tool but it's not necessary for 2nl. If you want to start getting more serious about poker and plan on moving up in stakes then I suggest it

I agree. Alot depends on your bank roll and if can afford to lose to learn. It also depends on the style you want to play. you can just play the top 10 hands and expect to make money, at time play aggressive and at times bluff. You will learn lots from that

It's certainly not necessary but you can decide whether it was worth it after the free trial. Also it allows you to look at your games, see if you need to change anything and watch hands back to see what went wrong. It also allows you to play more tables and still be able to profile palyers.
