Remember, in Hold 'Em the winning hand is made up of the best possible 5 cards, NO MATTER WHAT TWO CARDS YOU OR YOUR OPPONENT HOLD.
In the example you give the best possible hand is 5, 5, Q, T, K
4 of those cards are from the board - the kings come from each individual player, so they both made the best possible hand. CHOP
That's all there is to it.
BTW, it is entirely possible to "chop the board" which means the best possible hand is comprised of all the cards in the community board, say for example all one suit making an all spades flush. You could hold Ad Ah and those cards would be dead as they can't be used to make the best possible hand.
