If i have a $30 bankroll would it be better to spend it on entering 30 tournaments with a $1 buy in or would it be better to maybe enter 4 tournaments with a $7.50 buy in. If i go for the 1$ option I will have more chances to win but it will be against bigger fields and a lot more kamikaze type players. The 7.50$ option gives me fewer chances to play but there will be smaller fields and it will probably me a more normal game with fewer fish. Curious as to what would be the most profitable.

I don't think you will find a big difference in tournament play $1 vs $7.50. or $1 vs $30 in tournaments. Play the $1 tournaments and build or start over after you go broke It is $30 after all.

I say that after I have made a promise to myself to never play $11 tournaments online because that is where my experience has been 8 to the flop every hand regardless of pre-flop action.

no one can win all the time. My stats i looked at from 6 years ago had me ranked at highest at 95 % winning and lowest was like 47% when i played at that time i usually played 8-10 tournaments a day and came out winning some money almost every day. That is rough to play at that level is easier to play grind dollars in another arena like smaller stake ring play etc..

Tournaments are a numbers game you have to do the equation of what works for you. I will say imho its more important to be comfortable to believe you will win etc... then to try to push way into a place your not ready. If you win at 7.50 by all means play 7.50 lol that is the easiest answer the bigger the reward the better off you are but you have to choose a level that works for you whether is freeroll 50 cents or 200 dollar buy ins.

I have played all fields im most comfortable in playing for guarantee overpaid amounts less than 200 players that pay up to 1000 dollars. I can play the 15,000 people events and have done well in that but to dedicate a whole day? To win occassionally? not optimal for me. I prefer ring rake games in 25/50 cent range and buy ins under 5.00 for now but im working on building a bankroll. I dont mind freerolls at 2000 people if pay is 50 dollars for first but will even play 10 dollar freerolls if feel game is needing practice etc..

with me i try to play four games at once so if play 5-8 hours i should win a bit and im happy. Right now im not pushing for anything any goals or plan just love playing etc..

All of those things i just mentioned should be factored into your choice of what you want to play for etc..

:) hope helps a bit

If the money isn't a problem, and you can deposit and withdraw easily, then go bigger.

If the money is an issue, or you can't deposit or withdraw easily, then get the most bang for your buck and play lots of small games.

Many USA players who used to play bigger games, now play smaller games for those reasons.

Starting with $30 is going to be tough. If you play the $1 MTTs then you do have more chances, but how many of them will you have to get in the money to increase your BR. I would say to play a few, but I would play some at 2nl to help build your BR. Anyway GL to you.

With a bankroll is always advised to start with $ 1. Even a lot of $ 2. Starts with $ 30 and lose everything at once. You do not even have time to gain experience playing tournaments for money

With that bankroll I would go with the $1 tourneys. On average you will have to play a lot of MTTs to balance your winning to losing amount (e.g. you might only place in the money in 1/5 tourneys you play, but that could still more than cover the entry fees). You might also consider playing some SNGs that offer a higher payout ratio (usually top 3 get paid in a full table game) and don't last as long so you can get more $ faster if you do well.

If 430 is all you have, playing 30 tourneys with a $1 buy in would give you a better chance of building a bankroll.

I like what thetick33 said - find some overpaid MTTs. I see them quite often on pokerstars :) the odds for winning are no better but the payout is beneficially disproportionate

TO OP if you are only a US player I find the double or nothing sit and goes to be a very good way to move up 1.00 to 3 dollars at a time 10 seaters like on carbon where top 5 pay is pretty easy money on most days WPN black chip and acr do not offer the double or nothing but has 3 pay for 9 or 2 pay for six to give you better odds on the six with 2 paying

good start up tournaments to get comfortable with mtts is playing the 25 guaranteed tournaments usually 100 and like 40 players so 140 total people 0.50 buy ins

early mornings on carbon poker has every hour 9:20 10:20 am 1 dollar buy ins for 11 dollar seats usually close to 100 people

11.00 dollar seats get you into guaranteed tournaments even over 1000.00 that night or any night :)

There is such a thing as a bankroll management. You should read a couple of articles on it.

The proper bankroll management says that you cannot afford even those 1$ entrances :D Or, if you can afford em, that is the highest you should play :)

no one would ever win money if all followed brm to a T lol just saying no risk equals no reward.

I have never risked much and played up to 50.00 buy ins. Done very well but what if had risked more?

I would hate to go out of this life wondering what if in regards to poker:)

Never been ready always had other things or health in way.

Now maybe I see what if this time:)

I personally think got 30 dollar bank roll go play up to 3.30 game if the return of investment is right meaning right number of guaranteed right number of people meaning low as possible etc...

Keep in mind that BRM is for cheap bastards.....like me!

After a large cash at BCP I played fairly freely, without BRM for a few months. Taught me that my BR needed to be 100's of times bigger than it was to be playing that freely.

If I had lots of spare cash, and easy methods of moving that money around, I would probably abandon BRM altogether. But I don't, and in my heart I am that cheap bastard, so I do use a BRM scheme.....sort of.

I would say to do the $1 but be prepared to do a bunch of rebuys if you can and add ons. I wasn't thinking about this before but I played a $3 tourney and it asked me whether I wanted to rebuy or rebuy for double the amount when I went out. Make sure you know the rebuys and add ons and have enough for those otherwise you are not giving yourself a fair chance against others who will use all that's available to them.
