One of the reasons why you should not jump into a $ 5 / $ 10 game, after getting a huge pile of money at $ 2 / $ 4 is because as soon as the value of the stakes goes up, so does the average level of Abilities of the players sitting there. You want to be one of the best at the table and not the "fish" that sits with the ropes.
If you are making stacks of money in a lower level game, why change? You are earning piles of money. The oscillations up and down the higher limits are much greater. Be sure to only change the level, when you have a bank that allows you to withstand these oscillations without getting you into a bankruptcy:)

If you can't spot the fish at the table, you're the fish :p

Is it better to start playing micro and work your way up? I'm playing online and wanted to see if I would be better off staring at $1/$2 vs waiting for years in the micro stakes to earn significant money?

No one gets rich in low limits. At most you win for a while, there is always oscillation

Well, unless you can easily really afford that kind of blinds, then I agree with you. :)

I think this is the downfall of most players. They can beat a level and want to move up too soon. I guess its greed.

I agree with you, the best thing to do is to build a bankroll, from freerolls, after that, start playing Buy-In Micro!
A bankroll made of 50 in cash is already a great start, wish them luck!: Icon_bigs

I think that you are right. When I play 1/2 cents I win ,when I play 2/4 cents I also win but when I move to table which have bigger base bets I most often play really bad.

Yes I'm in cash games if I start playing for 1 or 2 cents I win and the card goes well 2-5 cents and also the card goes well but then I start to move to 5-10 cents and the card starts to go very small it does not coincide with the flop and I have to Descend again to small bets
