I'm trying to learn the optimal strategy for regular Chinese Poker (i.e. closed face). It seems everyone is obsessed with OFC, so I could've find any articles on the regular version. Does anyone have advice or a link to a strategy page? A number of Googles was unable to return anything helpful.

open face is the new craze which would be why most things you find will be in relation to it, I think I only played the regular in a game on my phone for what seems like ages ago now so can't be much help in regards to strategy of the top of my head but they both follow the same basic rules.

You make 3 hands out of 13 cards and the and they must be ordered strongest in the back to weakest in the front build like a tower lol.

I'm sure you probably know the basics already of course given your researching for optimal strategies, but not sure what would be around....or even where you would play the regular for cash besides live maybe.

cardschat does have an article in the strategy section regarding the open face variety though:

Yes I already know the basics and rules. I've been playing with friends live and I saw online that it's a "solved" game, so I was hoping to find the "solution" or else it's not much help that it's a solved game.

That is the only page I found, but it only talks about closed-face Chinese poker strategy when you're actually in fantasyland of an open-face game. When you're in fantasyland of an OFC game, the scoring and therefore strategy is completely different, and according to the link rhombus posted, solved such that you should just make the play that gets the most royalties. However, in closed-face, the royalties are very different and most hands in closed-face don't earn royalties due to the stricter royalty payouts (in OFC, a straight or better in the bottom gets a royalty, but in closed-face, you need at least quads to get a royalty in the bottom).

But seeing as the Internet is pretty much boundless, it's confusing that if closed-face Chinese poker is a solved game, why isn't the solution somewhere online? Or at least perhaps someone on this forum as the answer, or at least a start to the answer. I just want to have the edge when I play this game with friends.

they also say limit poker is solved and to some degree no limit, if you find the holy grail then let us all know.

Maybe the ones that have solved it want to keep it that way abit like the big pharmaceutical companies who dont really want cures found ;)

I guess the definition of a solved game means there is always 1 right answer and everything else is -EV in the long run, but obviously there are better wrong answers than other wrong answers. I guess I was thinking that solved meant there was an available solution, but I suppose not.

According to the RiskOriented link, Fantasyland closed-face as part of OFC is indeed solved, such that you just follow the royalties. I wonder if you took the OFC royalty chart in closed-face and then just set the highest royalty hand, even though you won't actually get those royalties in closed-face, then you'll have played the solved solution.

I have found this interesting having never played Chinese Poker but reading the attached threads I think it is quite straight forward. Obviously the strategy side is the most difficult, but like PLO or even NLHE that takes time. Does anyone know of any on-line sites that play it - perhaps that could be a easier way to learn.............gl with that..........................:D:D:D

When did closed-face stop being played? Anyone have any strategy advice or know where I can find some? That was my original question.
