I find myself in this same situation a lot. I'm pretty sure calling 3bb max is ok but I really don't know that's just a guess but I find myself fishing a lot online not so much live though I'm not sure why that's just the way it is.

in general I would bet 2/3rd of the pot..
However depends your position, if you are first to act how many players in the pot, and what the players that are in the hand what are they like..
f a lot of player I might check here to keep the pot small.
if agrssive people are in the hand.. I might check and see if they bet. and depends on my read if I call or not... and also could reraise them to test them to see how well they like their hand.

FWIW, you should probably be getting 5 to 1 pot odds to chase here. But personally, I wouldn't even be in the hand with garbage cards like that.

Odds are not very good to catch. Trouble spot.

Play fewer hands preflop. Save your money to invest in better spots.

My $0.02

Edit: Just saw you were BB, still say 5 to 1 pot odds, and I definately wouldn't bet OOP, since no one ever folds those stakes, and likely you will not make the draw.

Unless you think you can steal it I would try to get the other two cards for as cheap as possible.

Like stated it also depends on how many people in the pot how much money in the pot before flop and raises and callers and your position. Although also 56 off suit calling raises before a flop or just playing this hand by calling blinds non stop, unless in big or small blind position could lead to more trouble spots then pay offs. Even if the next card hits they could always boat on the river although low odds so is your chance of hitting the draw a little less then 20%, and let alone a chance to even have a draw after the flop. Basically at least you hit a draw to have but that will not happen more times then it will not. Reads are also important weather or not bluffing is a option or if someone is going to call no matter what and leaving you no chance to bluff. I would try to get in as cheap as possible calling so much of a raise maybe like up to 30% of the pot and if to act first either checking to see if a raise is made to try and get a free card otherwise around 25% to 45% of the pot raise to try and control the betting and setup a bluff if nothing hits so you don't give away that you are on a draw but maybe playing a Ace low card such as the five and you just hit the 5 also. That way ace king through like ace 10 might think you have two pair versus their top pair big kicker. If a re-raise comes back and you since trips well you can't control them hitting a boat no more then they can control you hitting the straight.

Really depends. How many players in the hand, reads on those players. If we're heads up Im going to be raising/re-raising quite often.

I will call a small to medium size raise, depending on the stakes. If its a 5 dollar buy in game I will call a lot since its not a huge chunk of my bankroll. However if I'm playing 100 dollar buy in, I would be less likely to pursue those cards pre flop in the first place
