I would have pushed the other player all in after the turn when your hand was made. That other player didn't have squat. You had to split the pot because you both checked it.

I'm assuming that both of these players got it in on the turn, K8o with the nut straight and the 82s player with a flush draw. The 82s has 8 outs to win by a flush and 3 outs to chop.

Statistically speaking, K8o wins around 75-80% of the time, 82s wins here 16-18% of the time and there is a 6-7% chance that a King comes down to chop the pot.
