hey guys, so ive spent the past 4 months working on my game, mainly position and ranges, and i think im get^ting somewhere with it, but now its time to focus on new things....cbetting will be the first thing im going to focus on....now im a big cbetter, prob about 90%, it is high....but the problem is with me not being a math guy and actually quite thick when it comes to it, i dont actually know why you should be cbetting a certain amount to make it profitable.....im sure i read it somewhere before the reasons but i was too busy learning other parts of the game to take it in at that time........as far as im aware we hit the flop 35% of the time missing it 65% and people say to cbet about 70-75%.....but why....yeah i know, its prob easy to work that out but i cant do it.....i know which flops are good to cbet by texture and player range/actions but i need to know the math so i can then move on to the next thing....thanks

Well, if you have something 35% of the time and don't the other 35%, that's a good thing, because your opponent will be on a complete guess if he chooses to continue.

I don't think (but I also don't know) that 70-75% is arrived at from game theory though. I think knowing the profitable flop textures to bet at is the most important thing to (besides your opponent), and if you are doing that correctly you will arrive around 70-75%. If you do that and are still cbetting 90% of boards, you could choose not to cbet 1/5 good cbetting boards to randomize your betting some.

I don't know what stakes you play, but you might end up with a cbet% that high if you are playing with a ton of fish.

hey man, nah we dont hit the flop 65% of the time...so its even better lol, or worse depending what way you look at it :D....Yeah i will usually cbet more OOP than IP...maybe a 10% difference or something...only ever change the bet sizing in relation to the texture and never my holdings, half pot dry 3/4, pot, wet etc...then start with the range thing more on the flop if im thinking about double barreling, usually hoping for a overcard on a dry flop...not much point in betting the turn if a low card comes i find....but its all dependent on villians actions/positon/range....like everything in poker, it depends lol

i play 2nl 6max and occasionally 5nl if im feeling good, and mix in some cc freerolls and league games too...im everywhere mate lol

I was saying if you hit 35% and are cbetting 70%, then opponents have a really hard time playing back at you since half the time you can pick up their bet. If you're cbetting more, say 90%, they know that you got nothing 55% of the time and can play back at you aggressively.

I would definitely vary sizing based on my hand strength though. Most people at the micros aren't going to pick up on it. Against better opponents that'd be a better approach since they would probably notice, but against scrubs you're just giving up value.

Varying bet size based on hand strength may work on PS/FTP
where you have a huge number of players/games going, but on the US facing
sites, no way. Not nearly as many bad players IMHO....
