I play more online than I do live but I seem to have the same problem in both. I can go deep in mtt's quit often, like I will go deep 4/5 tournies. But I can't seem to make it into the money. Any suggestions on how I can start going into the money as well as go deep into tournies?

Your question isn't specific enough. without seeing some HH's it's impossible to give any reply to this (imo) aside from > 'run good' 'don't let your stack get too small' 'look for spots to get it in over LP raises when you figure to have Fold equity'. etc. etc. etc. etc. (and then on to par. 2 of Chapt.1)

Try posting some HH's in the Tourney section & I'm sure you'll get some decent responses. Be sure to include all player's stack sizes (& position), size of blinds (& if there's antes), & if possible > player reads

yeah you are going to have to get way more specific but as far as tournies go maybe one of a couple areas - both have to do with shifting gears:

1) If you are getting deep then you are probably getting to short handed area. Are you changing your play when there is 6 at the table as opposed to 9?

2) If you are getting deep then the blinds are getting up there. This means your BB count or M is probably dropping. Is this changing your play?

The answer to both of these is yes - it should be changing the way you play. That's what tournaments are about - shifting gears. More importantly having those gears to shift to and knowing when to do it.

In tournaments, how often you cash isn't nearly as important as how much you win. Since MTTs tend to pay around 10% of the field, you obviously need to get fairly deep in order to cash. However, getting close to the money before busting pays exactly the same as being the first one out.

When people bring up situations like yours, the most likely cause is that you play too conservatively to try to cash, which means that most times you get near the money, your stack is below average. And then, you probably tighten up even more.

While it may not seem so intuitively, this is actually counter-productive Over the long run, you make more money by increasing how often you get to the top few spots that pay the most, even if it means you cash in a somewhat lower percentage of tournaments. And to increase how often you get to those top spots, you have to get better at accumulating chips in the mid-game, and at taking advantage of those players who tighten up near the bubble.

Or to put that in Del Boy terms.... "He who dares wins Rodders, he who dares wins!" :D

I know how you feel. This happened to me in 2008 when I first started playing Sunday Million Satellites on poker stars. Sounds like you are never really building a stack and only going "deep" because you don't get involved that often. Some adjustments to make would be to try and double up by playing hands with high implied odds (bust-your-opponent potential) like small-mid pocket pairs and medium sized suited connectors. If you are playing to TAG ish...you will only ever win small pots. Give yourself some chances to flop a set...or an open ended straight, or flush draw and get it in good with a set or get in it with fold equity and decent pot equity on a strong draw.
