Hello all first time posting and just found this site yesterday. I'm really looking forward to learning from all of you. I play a bit online and have tried a couple brick and mortar tournaments. Now I would like to try a cash game but I have a question about etiquette.

Assuming that you've won some hands and are up from where you started, how do you leave the game? Do you just stand up or is there etiquette to this? After the button? The blinds? What about if you're down does this change anything?

Thanks in advance.

I dont know about live rules and is there a some specific rule about it, but online if you decide to leave the last hand you play at the table should be before BB... and it doesnt madder were you up or down, you leave when you see that you are not playing your best game...

Sorry I didn't clarify. I'm speaking specifically about a live game.

Any time you want to quit, simply tell the dealer you're out before he starts to deal the next hand, then leave.

Before playing, you might also want to check what's customary at that casino in terms of tipping, both while you're at the table and when you leave.

wait for the blinds and leave, that´s it, that´s the good thing of this, one can sit and after a while leave, when one feels ready to go, just go, so just wait the blinds, i´ve heard that from the trainers in pokerschool, which is pretty obvious

I play at Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun, I would say it fine to leave just about any time other than hitting a giant pot and then leaving right after you win. People don't like people who hit and run and you will lose a lot of respect that way. I usually only tip the dealer if I am up and only tip them a few dollars at a time. That is for a $1/$2 game.

I say screw them.
If a degenerate gambler can't quit while he's ahead, that's somehow MY problem?

Show them how it's done.
Next time you win a huge, hand, just get up right there.
With a big smile.

You came here to make money.

Well, here it is.
Mission accomplished.

Pigs get slaughtered.

I tip when I rake a pot. I don't tip when I leave the table because the dealers rotate tables at the casinos I play at and they don't share tips. Therefore, if you wait until you leave it isn't fair to the other dealers. Watch what others are tipping to see what is a good amount to tip.

As for leaving a table, like others have said: doing so right after winning a big pot looks crass. Playing a few hands afterwards will reduce that effect.

I only play$1-$2 no limit at the casino and I tip $1 if I win a ok pot if its over $100 pot maybe 2 or 3 bucks . but not when I sit or leave unless the dealer kept dealing me killer hands then why not right.

I will sit one full round after winning a big pot, otherwise I will get up at any point before the next hand is dealt.

From what I've seen too, players will inform the dealer that they'll be leaving after the next hand or the next orbit etc and the dealer will announce to the rest of the table.

If you win a big pot, just don't decide to leave immediately coz it's just generally not very nice. You can just sit and watch and play a hand or two and then leave else, like what everyone says, you're a hit and run case. Came across a couple of these fellas before and everytime we hear they're coming to a game, everyone rolls their eyes and never engages them in a hand.

do the old "hit and run" win one huge pot and immediately leave. That is sure to aggravate every player at the table!

This is an excellent guideline for tipping.

As far as getting up, it's the same as online in that it may not be much, but you should see as many hands as you can before you leave. Therefore, it's best to leave when the blinds would get there. Just tell the dealer before they start dealing the next hand that you're out. Make sure you actually tell the dealer and don't just walk away, that would be a little rude because sometimes people will rack up or stand up, but still want to see a couple more hands. That way the dealer knows your intentions.

Tip what you feel is right. Generally 1$ per hand won unless there is no action preflop and you steal the blinds.

Do not leave after you win a big hand ( of course you can ). You will be scolded and may have a mark on your back next time you return.

Usually what I will do, is if I know I can't play long announce I will only be playing for X amount of time. That way if you are up, it doesn't matter if you quit.

Ultimately I don't care what others think assuming I know what I did isn't out of line (I.e. hit and run).

Win a big pot, wait 10 hands... leave. Fine by me!

****

Forgot to mention. There is a guy who plays @ a local club and I saw him at Turning Stone a few years back. It was around 2pm and I just got there.

He goes "Trooper! Nice to see you, time for me to go!"

"What happened?"

"Just doubled... I am outa here!"

He has a rule whenever he doubles his buy in, he quits. He drove 95 minutes, won in 5 minutes and drove home!
