Well not exactly a beginner. I've played tourneys mostly for about 3 years now and consider myself a decent player. I've cashed out $1,300 so far this year. I just don't fair that well in cash games. I don't know what the prob is but I would love some input from the players here. I currently have a bankroll of about $700 and would like to play cash games more. Where do I start? What games are the best for learning and gaining experience? Books? Websites? Thanks

Lots of players think that tournament "skeelz" don't translate very well to cash games. Your play just might be suited to one and not the other.

Get Poker Tracker, Harrington On Cash Games I & II, and play 5k hands of $10 NLHE. Post some hands that stump you and have some of the regs look at your stats.

That should keep you busy...

I agree with Double-A. Also stay away from tilting your BR away because of a bad beat or trying to get your loses back playing higher stacks.

You might even try some good limit games. I know NL is a "sexy beast" but one should not forget the limit game. Not all are cut out for NL tournaments. Good luck

Read up on proper bank roll management - mainly Chris Furguson, not just how much to sit down with but when to leave the table up or down.

And read up on implied odds. I'd practice a lot at lower stakes tables, even though play is worse, you want to play for awhile just cash and no tourney to adjust.

My cash game's nothing to brag about as my standard fare is usually SNGs or MT SNGs. However, I've noticed one big problem for me has been adjusting to a more patient style when playing cash.

While a regular in SNGs will often c-bet air, double-barrel, and just out and out bluff more as the blind rise, regulars at the cash tables tend to bluff less, imo.

And at the micros, where I play, MOST players seem to play their cards more than they play the players or position. ie, they generally have what they're representing.

Just being more patient is a big step forward for SNG players who're converting to playing cash, imo

A very good way to start is too get hold of Cash game killer Ebook. If your already know how to play holdem... It will sharpen your tourney skills in to playing cash games. ;)

Here's a good place to start for someone at your level. Great intro into the proper mindset for playing NL cash games.

Thanks for the great link!

I am also going to expand into cash games. Coming from a tourney background,I think my experiance is better suited for 9 man ring.

Do you have any additional suggested reading for someone that wants to start at 9 man?

i also have played tournaments for 3-4 years and have gone to online cash games. The way to play cash games is to chase more draws. Gamble more. be sneaky with low cards like 4 6 suited and things. Remember if you lose some cash you can just buy back in on the table bad beats also dont mean nearly as much.
