As a newbie I started pf play quite loose, but i've made conscious effort to play tight.

My dilemma right now is in playing tight, there stretches where i get nothing
solid to play.

Obviously there are situations where you exploit this tightness, my questions is more for the times when there are loose calling stations and/or maniacs at the table. What do you do just wait it out, force marginal hands, or simply leave/move position?

Is waiting 2hrs patiently normal to spike hand, even tp oop against 2 or more calling stations/maniac just sucks?

well, it's all a matter of how tight you're playing. if you're waiting for the top 5 hands in order to play, you'll be blinded out. The key is to work the 10 best along with the hopeful BB special and even if you're more card dead, move to top 15 or 20. once things start working again, go back to top 10ish and you should do well.

It's all relative to the blinds/antes.

In cash games, the blinds don't go up, so there is no rush to play hands. You can play a very select range and still make money. Tourneys with 15+ minute blind levels give you plenty of time as well. Once you get into the turbos, however, you will have to play a wider range or get very lucky.

Tight play at a cash game is generally rewarded over the long haul online. If you are talking about tournament play, then you would need to consider blinds and antes and how fast they escalate.

If tight play makes you impatient over time, then perhaps you need to work on either your ability to wait for big hands or to remake your playing style (which is pretty tough!) to play the aggresive style. Bigger swings, but if you can master aggressive style play I think there is more more in the long run to be made there.

I personally have been unable to master aggressive long term cash play, so I stay with tight play the majority of the time and my cash has slowly and steadily risen.

Funny how things balance themselves out cuz just finished playing and was hitting the deck hard. Within an hour & half It looked like I was a VERY aggressive LAG when all I was doin is playing my hands straight forward almost transparent. Patience is the word of the day I guess.

right now am playing around pokeys' "10% hand range". Just wanna develop good hand reading skills, cuz there're times when i think wtf could this villain be holding? and see at showdown something unexpected.

I feel comfortable playin tight to develop these abilities in nlhe cash games even though im a LAG at heart. In time, hoping sooner than later I can open this range to set major tilt on my foes to stackem w/ the nuts lol.

I'm not a fan of playing a "certain percentage" of hands.. The % range of hands you play should be increasing with position as a rule.

i.e UTG and UTG+1 I'm probably looking at playing top 3%-5% of hands only.... then the range opens dramatically as I progress around the table. Depending on the action before me, on the cutoff/button I'm looking to play around the top 40% of hands, along with small suited connectors, etc..

It usually averages out somewhere between 10%-25%ish of total hands played.

So I think it's okay to set yourself a % range of hands that you play overall (i.e aim to play between 10-15% of hands on average), but be mindful that you're overall percentage of hands played will be an average of varying percentage ranges that you will play depending on table position.

Don't limit yourself by just playing 10% of hands, regardless of where you are on the table.. If you do this you could be costing yourself money at both ends of the spectrum.

you'll probably be folding alot and thus will create a nitty image. you can use that image to steal blinds and antes occasionally with a raise. even if you do raise and get called, a cbet usually gets u the pot. dont be too tempted to try this too often, you dont want your opponents to know you've been stealing with trash while you're card dead
