Hey guys I was just looking for some advice regarding how to advance far in Carbon Poker NL Holdem freerolls. I know the typical strategy of fold, fold, fold that is preached by many people about freerolls. I tend to go very far in the traditional 10 minute blind play money multitable tournaments on pokerstars, but the structure of the carbon freerolls makes it nearly impossible for me to break top quarter. When I follow the tight aggressive strategy, I dwindle down on chips to the point where I am forced to make a move with low stack. Then I repeatedly get beaten on the river after I go all in even when I start out with the odds in my favor. In what way should I vary the typical strategy for Carbon specifically?

Thanks

The secret Is to play tight in the beginning stages. It's a real donk fest, it's really difficult to play these people but as blinds increase loosen up your play. Try different strategies see what works. The good news is its a freeroll so u can't lose money, find a strategy that works for you

The strategy is to play them in the morning and afternoon(horse freeroll), less donks and fish means more likely to cash.

+1 with what Jblocher said.

I've been playing on Carbon Poker for only a week now and have only played Freerolls and the Funsteps. I have cashed in two of the freerolls ($.20 in the first and $0.30 in the second). Tight in the beginning and loosen up as the game advances as the blinds increase. Those that are idiots tend to go all in the first few hands/rounds looking to double up. As the game advances people start to tighten up, so you can loosen up and usually take advantage of that.

CubsnBearz are you playing the $50 NLH Freeroll that is running right now? What is your S/N? Mine WesJones. At the Break I'm sitting in 6th with 29,039 (not meaning to brag). It can be done, just pick your spots and pray for luck against badbeats. Listen to your gut. If you think they are bluffing at it, they may be, but if you don't have diddly squat fold. Break is over time to play.

When you play large field freerolls or even buyins where the quality of play is basically at the beginner level, you have to understand that playing solid poker, while a good approach, is far from a guarantee of cashing or going deep. You have to expect that you'll be all in for your tournament life multiple times, and even if you're favored each time, all it takes is losing once to put you out.

Its a freeroll with fast blind so the variance is very high. You can win them if your playing good but it can take many many attempts. keep playing tight and pay attention to you stack ratio it helps determin how aggressive you should be playing.

Actually the early morning freeroll NL freeroll is the only one I haven't tried. My main frustration is I go very far in the mtt tourneys on pokerstars but carbon i always get hit on the river. I'll just keep trying I guess

Carbon's early mornings are FR are usually about half the field from the evenings. I have won the most from the 6am NLHE.

Does anyone know why merge did away with the $200 FR. Are they all just $50 now?

i won most of mine at 6am and also a few at midnight, your best chances, play it slow in beggining let donks take eachother out..... but dont be afraid to play good hands, and sock it to them when you can..... in order to make it to final table you are going to have to take a few chances

one thing to try on merge is not to put all your money in b4 river some times its hard, but if you can try to avoid the all in (0f course unless those certain hands come up) ;) than let them have it good luck on the merge it is tricky site

I started playing poker for the first time in Janurary and in Feburary I won .30 cents on the 8 p.m. freeroll. I still had out my cheat sheet for what beats what. So as the saying goes.... A clock is right at least twice a day. There are just $50 freerolls for the regular daily ones on Carbon Poker. I've won $272.50 in the past month and a half playing for free on NLOP.

$6,000 first break is a set goal for me and i get final table atleast twice a week (although no win yet)

My advice would be not to play them unless it is for entertainment value than by all means enjoy yourself. And if it is for just entertainment value than it really wouldn't matter how you played as long as you had fun.

The structure of that tournament moves pretty fast and starting stacks are pretty small for the structure so gamble early imo and try to build a stack. Most importantly and out of your control, run good and dodge alot of bullets as that tournament usually has 3-4k players in it.

I've played in Carbon's $50 for a couple of weeks or so and the two deepest runs I've made were 170th and 176th, both times I was able to double or even triple up early on. I was the chip leader on one of those runs at about 20 minutes in, but I couldn't hold onto it. I probably need to loosen up more in later stages which I'm still struggling with, being a rookie. For me if I get any pair that is JJ or better in the early stages I'm going to shove it every time because so many people are going all in with stuff like K10o or less. It seems to me like playing too tight in these freerolls is a recipe for leaving early, because if you're trying to wait for premium hands, especially after the first 30 minutes, the blinds will eat you alive and you will lose fold equity very quickly. At least that's what has been happening to me.

See IMO the only way to win those tournies are to get lucky early. Skill doesn't even play into account till maybe 600 left. I've top 10'd it 3 times, each time I had 10k+ chips 10/15 minutes in. The fact that the payout though is like ... .5% get paid it's just a matter of lasting till about the last 400 so skill actually plays into it.

I haven't played a great many of these tourneys as I have trouble breaking into the money. On other tournaments such as the some old Pokerstars ones with the top 10 or 15% I can find myself in the money 3/4 times, but have only broken into the final table twice. I guess I'll have to work on my mid-game so that I have enough power in the final stages to continue into late game.

somewhat not true, although it does involve some luck, but it takes plenty skill of knowing what and when to push to get pass the donkeys.... like you said you are right about it doesnt get to be real poker until about 600 ppl left or first hour gone, the only thing that changes is you still are playing same hands and all, you just dont have all the donks calling you with a 6 7 that they go all in cus they were suited lol ( i had someone tell me he will play any suited connector ) and if you dont play them your not much of a poker player lol needless to say he wasnt in tourney much longer....

I finally cashed in the $50, it takes a lot of patience and one of the things I found out was affecting me is that I had been looking at the overall leaderboard and getting flustered and anxious at how far ahead the chip leaders were in relation to my own stack. I figured that I should be focusing on only the table I was at and pretending that it was the only table of the whole tournament, and it made a big difference. About midway through this time I had 42o in the big blind, checked, and flopped two pair on a board consisting of 4 9 2 rainbow so I decided to shove with ~25k and see what happened, I figured everybody would just fold. There were 5 limpers seeing the flop. Turns out two called with AJo and AQo, turn and river were 10 and 6 so I got lucky and had over 75k to play with all of a sudden. A bad play from me but a worse play from them... I guess they probably put me on a straight draw or just thought it was a donk shove with nothing. I busted out in 28th because I was getting tired and made a bad call which crippled me, it was well past midnight and I had a final exam to deal with the next day so I was ok with it.

Moving on from Carbon

I was playing Carbon poker up until today when I realized that there was a player at my table who demonstrated that he could see my folded whole cards. In the notes field, he typed "2-7 pair?" I had just folded a 2-7 off suit and the first part of my player name is "pair" I reported it to the administrator and hopefully they will investigate in it. This site is okay if you're free rolling but after seeing that players are still finding ways to cheat, like on former site Absolute Poker, I will no longer waste my time or money on them. Only live games for me from now onhttps://www.cardschat.com/images/smilies/newomg/creep.gif!!!
