Good evening!

I'm loving the friendly community here so far. I seem to have a problem as to when should I call it a day.
I'd win in a session but then slowly lose it by the end of the day, maybe i'm tired, maybe the opponents on the table started to know my style of gameplay. :(

How do you guys determine whether to stay in a same table, when to leave, or even when to call it a day? Do you ever say things like "I'll stop when i make $X today?"

I very rarely play cash games. I am trying to win on mtt. There you can not just call it a day. You have to be King of the mountain. When I play cash games, I usually set a goal as I will not lose more than X. When I am winning and start noticing a downslide. I try to evalute if I am tired, my game play is slacking , or is it just a bad run. Best was for me is the I will not lose more than X. That may change during the game. For example if I start with $5, I say I lose this then I am done. If I jump up to $10. Meaning I am 5+. My new goal would be, If I lose $3 from this then I am done. When it works good like that, I just keep changing the goal a little that IO will end positve $ at the end. Hope you find what works for you. Good luck on the felts. :))

If you're new to the game which is seems and your focus is on making money or to earn x amount of $ then you have the wrong mindset.

As a new player you shouldn't be bothered about making money, you should be more bothered about improving your game. Money comes when you get better and should be behind improving your game.

If I'm considering already to call it a day so soon into playing poker, you probably are playing for the wrong reasons and should literally just stick to playing recreationally and just playing when you fancy a game of poker.

Never play under exhaustion or tiredness cause you wont be able to focus mentally and will go on tilting and cause further damage to your bankroll.

Yes there are times when i am playing cash games live or online where during play i will decide that if i reach a certain profit then i'll call it quits for the session of the day while there are times where i sit prepared to play long hours and i have no targets as such. Then i play till the session winds up if it is live or till i get tired or bored. :call2:

This is a good advice not only for beginners.. it's for all. For me, once you noticed to yourself that you cannot focus and your game is not the same when you started, then you need to call it a day.

Keeping a log might open a window when to stop playing. Some set limits with time or monetary. Might find playing for a specific time has the best results and anything after that might not be as profitable. There should also be time and resources allocated for education. Good luck with all future endeavors.

I used to use a computer clock to set an alarm at a certain time and then fifteen minutes later to give myself an exit strategy. The first alarm was so that I'd check the sit out next blind button... and the second was to make sure I quit. Nowadays though, I tend to play SNGs and so set to end my cash games when there's around 4 players left (If I'm ITM that is)

Setting a monetary goal for individual sessions is always a bad idea. Its time to stop if you realise that you have stopped paying attention or are making little mistakes more often! When i first started playing cash games i would constantly look at how much i had won/lost and judge my session on that rather than how id played! Now i take regular breaks and judge on how well im playing whether its time to stop!

if you're worried that opponents are starting to work out how you play, you're gonna have to switch it up a bit and change gears now and then. If youre playing at the low stakes like me though i doubt they are!

I know this all to well, about winning a session and then losing it back slowly but surely before I should have gotten up. For me it is the thrill of the gambling, that is why i do not leave, and I always think I will leave when I start to cooler, but then my mentality thinks to just get it back and then leave but then I lose it all...

huh  maybe is better way to move on from the table when you are in any kind of plus with the money. When you win a huge pot, softwere love to give good cards and pushing you to play more and more till you get busted ;)

I find it very helpful to take breaks during the day esp if your on a down swing and start chasing. The frustration will make you play bad hands and its not worth it

You're an addicted gambler, most probably.
You can't stop.
