I noticed that online nl players tend to make calls more often than live nl players do. I make a decent size bet to dissuade fishing when I have good cards on the flop and river but often get called online whereas a same sized bet would win the pot over in a live game.

Is there any explainable reason for this?

Haven't played online long and got my start live as well - so take this for what it is worth...not much.

IMO -

Online: I notice it more in freerolls or play $ games than with cash...what would you expect when the game means little financially? Not everyone is a poker purist. When it occurs in cash games or tourneys, I am guessing it is partly because of a certain detatchment from the online deposit the player made and partly stupidity.

Live: Most of the people I play live with are far from donks. And, there $ is usually close by to remind them that the chips actually mean something - Thus producing a bit more conservative calls. But I have never played in a live tournament either...just friendly (or not so much) tables of 6 or 8.

again..just my observation.

I agree when your playing live that is real money on the table. your mindset is different. It also takes so long to get you money back from poker sites that you almost feel that it is there to play with not to get back with soon. Plus there are idiots on the net. They don't have the other player in the eye when they make a fool of themselves.

Are you playing freerolls? Then absolutely there is a lot looser play in early stages.

I've started becoming successful both online and live. But I am a lot tighter online. Wait for your best hands and let all the stations call to their hearts content. You'll make more money and chips on those few monster hands than if you try to out-donk.

i believe its cause u can play lower limits online than u can in a casino. people play wild and wind up winning a 2 or 3 dollar tourney and pull a couple hundred and play the $25 and $30 tourneys the same. and the not having to be embarassed in person factor that helps people make bad calls.
