Never give check the river without thinking. Always consider value bet on the river. The value bets correctly applied in the river are extremely important, are invaluable elements of the arsenal of a player prepared. Use with awareness and wherever possible!

Thank you so much for this comment. It has allowed me to SLOW down while im in hands and completely think about my hand, my opponents hand, value and so on. It was extremely hard for me to slow down and think thoroughly about my situation. I would get caught up in the excitement or whatever else and lose value or bet and open myself up to a raise that puts me in a bad spot. Just wanted to say thank you again.

CBet= Continuation Bet = Betting the flop as the original raiser.

That being said: Your advice is good advice.

Patiently analyzing the hand in entirety before you decide your river action is important. And playing the river well is very very important.

On the river you must bet for value and/or bluff to balance your range!
When betting on the river, you should always keep in mind whether it'll be a value bet or a bluff bet!

Good advice here - always consider your move carefully on the river and if you make an action, the probabilities for the reactive actions of your opponents and how you would handle these actions.

Always consider a river bet instead of auto-checking it.

I believe what jmateuspoker is saying is, if you have a good hand on the river never just check it without thinking first, always think about betting for value. A lot of times I see players, myself included, insta-check on the river and end up winning the hand, but miss out on an additional value bet's worth of chips because they didn't stop to think about the situation as a whole. Yes, checking may very well be the correct play there, but not until after you have considered the possibility of making a value bet. There's two reasons for this.
The first reason is that you should never assume your opponent will do the betting for you. If you "know" you have the better hand you should not be checking the river in the hopes that you can check/raise them. Even if they have been the aggressor throughout the hand it is very common for players to shut down on the river because they assume if you had stuck it out this far then they are beat.
The second reason is that a value bet on the river can act as a very good bluff. A lot of times when bluffing you aren't trying to bet so much that it scares the person off the hand, but you are betting the amount you think the opponent will call. You're bluff can be that you are trying to sucker the opponent into giving away some more chips without folding. People who have you slightly beat can read a value bet this way. Meaning your value bet can often double as a successful bluff.
For either of the above situations, a check may still be the best play. But at least consider the value bet because it may just be what either gives you more chips or wins you the pot. Here are a few examples:

  1. Example: Your opponent has been betting low the entire hand allowing you to chase a straight and then you hit it on the river. Don't auto-check in the hopes that they will bet again, but consider being the one to make a value bet in the hopes they think you're bluffing and call. Some people will even call just to see what you had if you value bet correctly.
  2. Example: You have middle pair and both of you have been checking the entire way. They check the river before you. A value bet can do one of two things: it could get you a few more chips if you have them beat, or it could get them to fold in a situation where they have the same pair with a better kicker.
  3. Example: A scare card comes on the river, such as the fourth card to a flush, and you have two pair but missed the flush or did made a weak flush. Don't check immediately even if that does end up being the correct play. At least consider the possibility that they missed the flush as well and your two pair is better. Also, a bet could push them off a weak flush, so at least consider the possibility of making the value bet which could even double as a mild bluff in this situation.

I already lost a lot of chips because I did not know how to bet by value, I used to always check in these situations to get a bluff image and I ended up getting a check behind.
