The Button

The dealer button in Texas Hold'em rotates clockwise after each hand is completed, so your position changes after each hand.
When you are learning poker it is essential that you know the power of the button. Next to starting hands, position is the next most important aspect of Hold'em.
The player with the button is in an early position before te flop. After the flop he is the last to play and has a tremendous advantage over the other players and can see if they bet and how much.

Position and the button is such an essential part of hold em.

It has a lot to learn, but I think that the rules in poker is often overlooked - yet not necessarily know

As aspiring members and new members (while it is unclear as to just how experienced or otherwise that you are at playing poker) it is easy to focus on one or two specific issues within the game and rely on them. One of the most interesting comments in this thread and often everywhere is a focus on how important your starting hand is. Some would say that your starting hand is irrelevant. That's crazy, I hear you say. However, consider this, if your starting hand is the most important, why is position important? I have heard very experienced players say that position is everything, and there are loads of other considerations to account for before you even look at your cards. In fact some players have even gone as far to prove this by playing poker (during the early stages of a game at least) without looking at their cards at all..... And winning. This shows that starting (or hole cards) are not as important as many people make out. Think about it next time you play. Are your cards more important than your position, and the relative situation in which you find yourself within the game or tourney? This may open your eyes and minds to a whole variety of considerations in poker that should be considered way before the relevance of your cards. Good luck.

Yep the BTN is the best position in poker as you are last to act and you get info on what opponents do before you.

OP stated that when a person has the button they are in early position pre and last to act post flop, this is wrong, button is always in LP and never in EP. BB is last to act pre and then in EP after the flop, maybe got confused with that.

when you are the last to act, you have the best position on the opponent and it helps a lot in holdem
