Hi,
Finally I would like to start playing raked games, as playing freerolls is cool, but I'd like to learn more things playing cash, and why not win a few bucks :p

So, I'd like to choose my games properly, in order not to get cracked, and also choose the rooms properly.

Let's talk about the games first. I don't think I've got the BR to start playing MTT now, so I'd like to play CG and SnG in a first time.
I played yesterday a $1 SnG with 10 players on party poker.
Payouts were 50%, 30%, 20%
I finished 2 and won $2.40.
I didn't understand first and when received the Hand History, could see that the fee was $0.2 by player, so there were obviously a 20% fee, which is huge...

So, I'm wondering if I should keep playing these kinds of SnG, because it was a turbo one, and the factor luck has a great importance too, and maybe I'm gonna lose my buck more often than winning a small amount.
So, should I play "Double or nothing" SnG instead ?
Any advices on beginner's SnG are welcome :)

Then, I'd like to play CG too. I'm gonna play NL2 to start, because I have not the proper BR to play higher level. I'm gonna try 6max and FR in order to see which suits me best.

Here comes another question to me: the Room choice, as I think it's a key factor too.
I like to play in well known rooms like FTP, PS... but maybe in such sites I will find the best players.
Should I play in smaller sites and it would be easier to win money on CG ?

Also, before starting to play CG, I'd like to upgrade my regular accounts in order to get rakeback. And obviously, if by chance it'll happen, it will takes time...

Thanks :)

Wow, $0.8+0.2 is pretty outrageous. That's actually 25% rake.

For super micro SnGs, I would strongly recommend Everest since they have a much lower rake for them (10%) and it starts at $0.1+0.01 which is a really cheap way to learn the game.

Your better off depositing more and playing micro cash games. SNG's and DoN are just too hard and unpredictable especially if you're not an experienced player.

Id suggest playing cash games with the occasional tournament/MTT SNG.

But obviously just see what game suits you best.

I personally like the DoNs when starting with a small BR. Yesterday my pokerstars BR was $9, played 3 of their $1.15 DoNs and now Im up to around $11.50 and it didn't take much time. But, I have been playing DoNs for a while on PO and the ones their are always turbo so I am used to these types of games.

At Players Only (PO) I started with like $2, won a regular $1 SnG then played DoNs all the way to $50, which didnt take long, so I may be bias since I have done well in these.

Remember in a DoN that the point is not to collect every last chip from every player, but to knock out 5 players. This should change the way you play.

I started at Stars at .01/.02 nl in February. Don't worry, you'll have plenty of poor opponents there. I think the shear number of games is an advantage over smaller sites where you'll run into the same people more often. Full Tilt also has a lot of micro cash games, but I don't like these as well for some reason for multi-tabling -- probably because they move a little bit faster and I like to use Table Ninja, which is for Stars. No need to try to get rakeback on Stars, either. I've tried on Full Tilt, but unlike some people, I still haven't had any success (but I'm on the fabled "list").

I think the OP is correct a 20c Vig in a $1 stngo would be 20% not 25%

Hey Maolitis, a little more info would have given you better, more detailed

feedback. What bankroll are you working with? Are you planning on Multitabling?

Personally I think a 20% is almost unbeatable, and I wouldn't waste too much

time trying to beat those games. If they are the highest St ngos your bankroll

allow, I think learning the ropes at the Micro tables would be a better option, as

the Rake wont hurt you as much there. And a good ringame strategy will win you

more $$$ on Av than stngos IMO. GL and give em hell.

many thanks for all your answers, really appreciate that, and good advices I'll follow :)

I'm gonna play both CG and SnG, because I think both games can bring me some abilities.
In fact, I play quite few by these times, and it was a long time ago since I did not go far in a freeroll.
By playing the SnG last time, the fast growing of blinds made me play cards that I would never play in normal time.
So I think both CG and SnG will bring me some abilities, at least I hope so ;)

I'll probably check these DoN SnG, to see if I double often :D
If I can increase a bit my BR like that, it's great.

Before playing seriously CG, I want to have the proper tool, which will be HEM, after testing both PT3 and HEM.
But I won't be able to get it for free, as I already have accounts everywhere :(
But the licence is a lifetime one, and I think the $80 is not so expensive for a lifetime tool. I just hope they won't stop to develop the software!! ;)

So, when I'll have HEM, I'll start playing CG. I'll probably buy it next month.
Until then, I'm gonna stick on SnG.

Regarding my BR, in fact, I must have something like $150 I would say. The problem is that these are only $ won on freerolls, on multiple rooms. So, I must gather them, by depositing on each room, playing a bit, and withdraw everything. It'll take some time to gather everything.
When it'll be done, I'll probably add something like 150 or 200 other bucks, in order to deposit on a couple of rooms.
Then, I hope I'll be able to make more $ with them :)

Thanks again for your advices :)

First of all you should know which game you like most.
MTT´s, cash game or SNG´s.
Then play that game at that pokersite that offers the best win ratio!

In my experience sitngos are a great way of boosting your bankroll, but you should not play those $1,20 sits, at least go to the $2.25 that are a little more fair.

I started with $50 dolars on Full Tilt and got up to $300 playing $2.25 sitngos.

I play sng's and although the 20% is expensive the the time spent playing and regularity of the 9 man torny is hard to beat. I am always looking to move up the stakes which I do if I have a good amount of time and I'm feeling good. Although you are obvious directed to stakes by your bankroll there is a time and place for lower limits as a way to play and maybe try out a new theory you have come across or you are not at your peak but what to keep your hand in.

Last month i try Party S&G and i hated them, ALL are turbos like 3 min blinds, the blind structure also sucks, after 10 min or close to that you already are in push/fold mode, my advice is go to Fulltilt, best blind structure of all sites, also you can find pretty much any game you want.

I am wondering where you have the most money and what amount because if you could get rakeback at that place it would make things a little easier. When I first started off with 50$ I played the 1$ sng and yes the rake is horrid but I beat them first the 9 then the 18 mans which give a better payout if you can cash.

I think you should have a think at what games you are best at and what you enjoy playing most then use your freeroll winnings to try beat that game while saving up for a deposit somewhere, I know some players who have grinded the ft sng sattys to the daily dollar up too a decent amount and they are suppost to be quite easy to beat.
