I was wondering, for a new player, who doesn't enjoy cash game play, what is a decent amount of starting capital for a bankroll. I usually play SNGs and MTTs. What is the best way to build your bankroll?

Any overall tips at all?

Thanks guys.

I think for STT the minimum bankroll management rule is 20 BI, and for MTTs you want more than 50 BI.

A starting bankroll of $50 would be fine Id assume. Follow the proper BRM and you should be able to get er up there if you decent. Start with the 1.10 SNGs or depending on where you play, there is some soft satellites for cheap you can exchange for cash. Thats what I did to get me started.

My biggest tip, is to go through this forum and read everything you can. I did and it improved my game forsure.

For playing STTs long term you want at least 50 buyins though a lot of players (myself included) prefer to have more like 100.

For sit'gos my BMG says that you need at least 100x the buy in, is more safe to play. And as you are a new player, the chance of a downswing is higher.
My tips to build a bankroll is to play a lot of freerolls besides the sit'gos and MTT's. There's a lot of good value freerolls out there so you don't need to play those crazy ones.

max. BI for a tourney should be 2% of your Bankroll, which equals to the 50BI (and this should be the absolute minimum). For MTT 100 BI would be much better. In addition like Cooking mentioned, play some freerolls, this will also help.

$50.00 should get you started. Right from the get-go, you need to set filters/responsible gaming to the following:

- No cash games above 0.01/0.02
- No STT or MTT over $2.20

Don't play 5card draw or PLO. You should not consider moving up until your BR reaches $150.

After cashing out last year and leaving 50 buyins i noticed that after a 15 plus downswing that I was more tiltable then when I had 100 plus buyins.I guess part of the psychology of poker:rolleyes:
