Hi, I was wondering if anyone has played in the 500k play chip free roll, if anyone has ever started a BR from that and also any tips on accumulating play chips. I'm doing step tournaments at the moment.

I think accumulating 500k in play chips is not worth the $4 for 1st place.

I did this and started a bankroll that I worked up to about $60. It sucks. Just deposit 50$ and save yourself hours and hours of playing against unrealistically bad opponents.

What would be your advice for accumulating play chips and what was the play like in the free roll?

Anyone wanting to make a small BR from FRs should study the game, make some quality posts here and stay as an active member, and then play in the CC freerolls

I have sold some play chips online from time to time after getting a couple million built up but it sucks building up. My advice would be just deposit a little money and go from there. Its alot easier.

how fast were you on building up the play chips? wouldn't that take roughly the same time as grinding FRs?

Would agree it makes more sense depositing or looking for freerolls. (region or affiliate or special promos)

Oh my goodness, I would assume the same person that can win $4,000,000 in play chips would be able to do the same things with real money and in about the same amount of time. Then you could buy an ipad.

I think it's a very hard way to get money, However, I think it will make you to stick to BRM, I suggest you to play steps , when you win a the last step don't go and play the 500k, buy some tickets to step 6 and win a few Millions, I think when you achieve around 5 or 6M you should play the 500k tournament, always keep playing those steps and keep your balance around 5 to 6M. I think its a great way to build a decent BR.
offcourse to become a better player you really should play the CC freerolls.

I've played the 500k free roll 3 times and I cashed twice. The other time I came in 22nd(4 away from placing), which sucked but it happens.

I don't follow any sort of BRM when playing play money because it would take way to long to get enough play money to play the freeroll.
I have a few ways that I use to get over a million play chips. The first is through the step tournaments. I've worked my way to step 7 a few times and if you place first you get just over one million.
The other way is to build up to 20k or so and then just play rush. It's pretty easy to win this way. You just have to play premium hands. You'll always find people who go all in with anything you just have to play a lot of hands.

Even though it is possible to build a roll this way it's really difficult. First off you need to work your way to 500k, which can take awhile if you haven't done it before. Then you need to place in the tourney, which isn't easy. The bubble in the tournament is hard to crack. If your sitting at 20 with 25 to play your in trouble. Even if you win you then have to build up from 2 dollars. That's the hardest part. I just had 2 dollars on Wednesday from the 500k, but lost it all before winning a single SNG. I played the daily dollar sat, but the cards just weren't falling my way.

The best I've done so far this way is building from 0-13.

If I was eligible for CC free rolls I would play them because I've done much better that way before. Unfortunately, I had to re-apply after taking some time off from poker. Hopefully I'll be playing those in a few weeks though.

With Cardschat freerolls it makes building a bankroll so much quicker than the 7 Steps method. That would be a real downer to have to do good in 7 tourneys in order to get 2 bucks. My twin loves playing play money tourneys as much as freerolls. I do not like to play for play money unless it is among friends.

Yeah its really not worth it. The best way to make money is to play in the many private freerolls that are on full tilt and not waste your time on the 500k $40 play chip tourney or the $150 freeroll and go to the private freeroll section and get passwords. It's not very hard and can built up slowly. Also, when you get enough posts you can get in the cardschat freerolls, so good luck.

I'm building a freeroll bankroll at the moment, and had been doing the play money -> $40 freeroll route. I have over $10,000,000 in playchips now, and I've cashed several times in the playchip freeroll -- I probably have about $12 in total winnings from the cashes.

If you are doing this, the best way to start is to take the $1,000 playchips they give you in the beginning and go to any NL table and try to quadruple up. Just get in there, shove any two and if you lose reload (you can reload $1,000 playchips anytime -- though there is a 5 minute waiting period). The players at the table will get the picture you are donking any two, and eventually you'll win a multi-way all-in pot with your cards and then you have $5,000 in chips.

With the $5,000 in chips, you buy a whole bunch (8+) of step 1 SNG tickets. The step 1 & 2 games are so soft, you can literally sit out the whole time in most of them and you will advance to the next step about 30-40% of the time. You will almost NEVER lose a ticket by doing this.

In steps 3 & 4 it's still possible to just sit out and never play a hand, but it becomes more like 5-10% advance rate -- and occasionally you might lose a ticket. It's usually a little better to just play ABC, and your advance rate should be higher.

From step 5 on, just play ABC poker. Grind your way up the SNG ladder -- you'll have a ton of tickets and chances with the $5,000 start. Eventually, work your way up to step 7 and cash big.

This is the safest way to build a play money roll -- you will never go bankrupt and you will build your roll slowly. The problem is, it is a SLOW process. It is a SLOW process, but SURE.

After I got about 500k using the steps method, I started hitting the cash ring games -- just look for soft games and punish the fish. I like the 20k NLO (no limit omaha) tables at full tilt. Even using appropriate BRM, your stack should start growing. If you do not use appropriate BRM, since it is play money it is a good way to learn the lesson of the importance of proper BRM.

When you feel comfortable with your play money roll and feel you can take a 500k hit without too much pressure, then start playing the 500k freeroll.

The biggest problem I find is grinding the meager winnings from these cashes into a reasonable bankroll which can be used to practice good real money BRM. When I first cashed, I was able to grind my way up on 2NL shortstack from $2 -> $15. This took a lot of time, a lot of patience, and was boring. I'm not particularly fond of grinding cash ring games, so I decided $15 might be enough to test the SNG waters. It was not. I played fantastic poker, I got it in while ahead almost always, but variance in SNG can be pretty harsh and 15 buy-ins is not enough to protect from the very real possibility of going bankrupt. Which I did. Twice.

In all honesty, the private freeroll / public freeroll way to build a real bankroll is probably the less time-consuming method of doing it. However, I will say that the process of grinding play money chips does teach one a bit about BRM, properly playing against donks/fish, table selection, and will expose you to a lot of hands with no risk.
