Ive been trying to build up a decent sized bankroll for some time now, I started off with a $25 dollar deposit and slowly been going up and down, ive managed to get my bank roll to around $250 but i'm unsure on what to do next.

Ive been playing small buy in SNG and .10.25c NLHE. The swings in cash games for me are massive, I can loose or win half my bank roll in a single session.

Any advice would be highly appreciated as I am lost on what to play!

With $250 I would recommend playing 5NL and setting yourself a limit of 4-5 bullets per session... I personally prefer cash so that's the route I would take

I'm like ConDeck. I would go down at least one level. Maybe 10nl. If you have been playing 25nl, you should have no problem at 5nl or 10nl. But still you can lose a lot if you are not careful. What I do is set a limit on how much money I can take a chance with in one day. I do that at all my sites. Like I can only rebuy once in a MTT and only one buyin at a cash table. By doing this, the next day it's not real hard to get my money back. But if I was to lose $50, it would take awhile to get it back. BR management is very important part of your game. GL to you.

I would say 10K hands at 5NL would give you a good idea of your ability to beat these levels. If your showing a profit of 3BB+ per 100 hands over this sample you can then move up to 10NL confidently but drop back to 5NL if yor bankroll decreases to 200ish (40 buy ins). As mentioned above, BRM is key!

Are you using any tracking software? Hm2 or pt4?

And yeah by bullets I meant buy ins. If you lose 4 walk away, come back tomorrow... I have had sessions where I have been down 3-4 within the first 6-700 hands but finished up by 4-5 buy ins after 2000, sometimes it's just not your day, either luck or skill wise, and controlling tilt and managing your bankroll on these days is key to minimising losses and maximising profits... Which is essentially your main goal in poker.

If you wanted to start playing SNG's I would recommend using a strict bankroll management approach whereby you should only use 1% of your bankroll at any one time. For instance, as you have a $250 bankroll, you should never play a SNG with a buy-in more than $2.50. Hope this helps.

play where you feel safe and confident. Do not risk a lot but do not get hung up on thinking that only amounts lost in thought and focus to win great values.

I am new to the poker software that's now available, I am currently using a trial version on Hm2 and i think i will be upgrading to the full software once the trial is up. The software is good for going back and reviewing hands but besides going over past hands what else can this type of software do I feel like im not using it to its fullest?

I would certainly recommend using software, especially if you intend to multi table.

One of the benefits is as you say, reviewing hand history's. But you can take the analysis much further by analysing your own stats over a large number of hands, plays that work and what doesn't, closing leaks etc (areas your bleeding chips or gaps in your game).

Also do you use the HUD itself? To view others stats in play?

Using software effectively is a massive are and one that you will constantly learn, develop and adapt to beat suit you.

If you have any specific questions post here pm me or Skype me and I will try to help where I can although I do not claim to be an expert.

If youre starting, sng is good for you.

Cash game is dangerous because your buyin is directly at stake all the time.

For sng or tourney, even if your chips shrink, still can recover.

With a $250 bankroll you should play 10 NL and if you start losing a lot of buyins move down to 5 NL.

I suggest you play with $ 250 : SNGs at most 2.50 and cash maximum of 0.25 / 0.10 can play cheaper if you are not so confident in his game. remembering to study the game to rise the level more quickly

Hello, I've heard on Twitch stream that 5$ SnG PSK are great, so if you can manage 50BI for those SNGs that may be the choice for you. My friend also used to play 2.5$ 180max SNG, he easly leveled up his bankroll to 600$ and moved to MTT's. IMHO cash games at early stage are really risky.

Yeah I deffinetly prefer SNG and MTT, cash games for me atm are very hit and miss either loosing % of my stack or increasing it, the swings are very big for me and when im down i end up tilting and making mistakes.

Im slowly getting better at MTT's and cashing out of them just never hitting the final table!

Im currently using HM2 HUD, i understand the basics of it pre flop but i cant get my head around reading the stats for the rest of the game Turn River etc. Like I can read the stats and understand what sort of player im against.

Is there anywhere that clearly explains each stat on a HUD ive looked online but cant find anyting that helps.

First thing is to know yourself and profile. If you are loosing on cash game, stop playing it until further study on it. Suggestion to use any tool that could show you the best SnG (most profitable according to your history) and keep playing it to build a higher bankroll.

With 250$ you can play 5NL assuming you are a winner at 2NL.

If unsure, first go to 2NL any play there. First 1-2 tables then a few more while still being a winner. After 50-100k hands move up to 5NL etc.

Also you can check my signature for some ideas on developing a bankroll.
