Hi all!
Heres my first post, cant wait to get started on here, looks like a great way to improve my game! I have been playing poker for 2 years, more so in the last 6 months. I do well at the tables and feel i have an edge over most of the players at the games i play.
However i seem to only ever be playing break even poker, never making a deccent amount considering the time i dedicate to the game. I find it happens right across the board, at live tournements, online tournements and online cash games.
For example when playing 4 tables (cash), i gradually build up a stack on at least 2, playing solid poker and making good decisions. But then almost always, on one table, i suffer a with a fairly cold deck or a suck out, going broke on that table. So i spend hours grinding; making a small profit, to then suffer a large loss in a matter of seconds. Ending up where i began :/.
I suffer similar occurences in tournement poker. Spending an hour again working up a stack, playing tight agressive cards. Then it almost seems inevitable (sorry for the negative attitude) that i crash into a rough beat/cold deck. I.E. last week online I made the final 4, got my money in good with AA against 77 and my opponent hit a set. I find it a near miracle to go an entire tounrement without suffering a tough beat?
I enjoy poker, and im fully aware that you have got to expect bad beats and times when the cards dont fall your way. I also do believe that poker has a skill element to it.
Can anyone help? whilst im enjoying poker id love to make more money from it. Currently struggling to see how its possible :/

Well, beats are going to happen to everyone, it is just part of the game. All you can do is make sure you are making good decisions, and getting your money in good.

Do you use HM2 or PT4? maybe post some of your stats in the thread, or post some of your hands, and people can help you out. I use Leakbuster with HM2, it has helped me patch up alot of holes in my game, definitely recommend checking it out if you play cash games. and I was always reluctant to post hands, but have been doing it more recently, and it really is helpful.

its going to happen most tournaments, you have to run extremely good to win or run deep in one.

pick cash or tournaments as well imo, it'll make your life much easier..

I don't mean this to be harsh, but if you really have an edge over most of your opponents, you'd be a winning player. Maybe one thing you can look to change is basing your evaluation of yourself on your results.

The surest way to be profitable is to play people who are below your skill level. If you play above your most profitable level because you think you're better than your results say you are, you're not helping yourself.

Bad beats happen to everyone it becomes expected. To win a tournament you have to dish out at least a bad beat or 2 to people at your table. All part of the game. Also a suggestion maybe quit when your ahead so if you win 100 at 1 table stop playing for a while then start again
