i visited my usual casino today.i had 100$ to buy into a 1$-2$ NL cash game.i was feeling good and was anticipating a positive outcome to the session. i couldn't have been more wrong as you will see.i just want to say that this isn't easy for me to share with everyone .my pride really got hammered to hell on this one.and im guessing that everyone knows how bad that can sting . heres the long and short of it....this is the 11th hand dealt since i sat down all folds until now,im two seats in front of the BB.im dealt As Js first guy limps i bet 8$ and get 3 callers. the flop comes Jd 4c 7s.its checked to me and i bet 20$(thinking i might win that small pot right there) all but one guy fold.the turn comes complete air like the 9h.i count out 40$ and while um pushing it in all i remember thinking is "this should end it right here" that's all the thought i gave it.he calls. im now confused as the river comes 2? and like a complete moron i say to myself "i have him out kicked"but unconvinced about everything but my stupidity, for some reason instead of checking i bet 10$.he calls.i cant believe i didn't check.he turns over pocket jacks.i wanted to slap the shit out of myself .i was so pissed off but i managed to say" good hand" and somehow maintained a neutral outer appearance. i was so far beyond tilt though. a couple hands later i limped in with K 10 spades.the flop was As 6s 7h so i pushed my last 17$ all in and of course missed the flush to complete my total self destruction.i think i said "wow" as i stood up and somewhat calmly walked out of the card room while steam must have been shooting out my ears.it took me a few hours to get myself off the ledge so to speak.i just hope i learned from this and never do anything like this again. im open to anything anyone has to say about this so please feel free.

First of all sounds like very typical $1-2

Second - POT CONTROL
You were not holding a great hand - TPTK, yeah - but only one pair - NOT WORTHY of the money you were putting into the pot. You escalated a hand that you should have had less value for rather than trying to push your weight around.

Sure, the board was dry as hell but when you see a rainbow flop like that called, your "overpair?/he hit a set?" alarm should be waking you up. It's now time to ease up on the gas a bit.

But of course you were screwed. Imagine if the turn were an A

that is what pissed me off mostly i guess is that alarm which goes off all the time in my cautious mind. was not even there or at least not till it was very late.as the beginner that i am i use that alarm to keep me in control or tight and tight has been working well for me.i do want to add some aggression to my play but that hand was ridiculous. i can look at it and learn from that play now but at the time i was upset that i had regressed so much all of a sudden. thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with me.you know what an ace on the board would have done. busted me in 1 hand.and i would have been sure mine was best ass im pushing in. imagin my surprise.lol

This is a good learning experience and it happens. Playing with 50 bbs will not always result in you playing for hours and hours. A couple of coolers will make you go broke and force a rebuy or quit. First hand, you only lost $10 more its not a big deal. He couldve pushed you all in and you mightve called, so maybe you saved little bit. When you only have $17, you can't expect to make a comeback. Either rebuy or just get that money all in and hope you win. You got it in with a good draw and missed - this is typical poker.

All I can say is that this is poker and things like this will happen all the time. Sometimes you will be on the losing side and other times on the winning side. Don't let it get to your head - look at how you played and go from there. You didn't play bad and just got a little unlucky. Next time you play, you'll handle it better. GL

Not only could he have hit a set, but there was potential for a straight on the board as well.. Just seems to me that you were doing a lot more "firing" and a lot less table analyzing....

Oh and the bet on the river was a really weak bet. Never try and value bet the river because you will only be called when you are beaten... which in this case you were. I'm partly surprised this player didn't re-raise you all-in... he probably could tell you were tilting and about to blow.

I had a similar experience the other night (luckily just at microstakes, so I only lost like 5$). But after the hand I thought to myself, "what the hell was I thinking?!" I just called it quits for the night and decided I needed to work on not letting my attention get lax next time. But it's like you said, you just have to learn from these mistakes and not be a repeat offender :)

Well you probably did not just "regress all of a sudden" - this game is a lot like like golf. So many things to keep track of when all you want to do is whack that ball. Everything goes okay for a while and then one little thing gets missed or taken for granted and you are in the woods.
For now just try to remember - big hand, big pot - little hand, little pot. AJ TPTK is NOT a big hand. You do not want to stack off with something that weak - for now. I just had that hand. Sure I bet (he kept checking to my position) - but small and he kept calling. Like you I could not figure what he was calling with = so I kept it small. If he comes over the top then I start to get a clue. I even checked the turn to see if he might fire the river and he checked (no draws on the board). In this case he never did raise me and we went to show down and he had KK. I lost the hand, but I lost about as little as I could - because I knew, even though my hand had value - it was not big value. He was the one who misplayed his hand (not getting more from me) - not me.
If you think your hand is good and you get called - you must slow down and ask "what is he calling with??? Where is he going with this???" If you do not have answer and are confused = that is NOT the time to put more in money in the pot.

pot control! especially if you buy in so small to a 1/2 live game. most people have around 300-1k in the 1/2 games around here. buying in short you need the nuts!!
