should one be reading poker books or watch pros play ,or play in freerolls to gain experiance and expertise
Poker law:
Never assume that poker textbook authors act solely in the interests of readers.
Learn the basics of poker, the psychology of mathematics and constantly practice their knowledge in practice.
all the same, reading something is useful and the video also does not interfere with learning
I wish you many victories in the future

The more poker you play, the more books you need to read. But if one of these two things is missing, there is no benefit to the other

I think both videos and books will be useful, but books will be more useful.

Books about poker are good only in psychology. On a technical, tactical subject it is better to watch videos from tournaments, such as EPT and others, with open cards. Personally, such videos help me a lot in my game. And I think for beginners this is what you need.

I think that's personal, first you should ask yourself first "Which way i learn better ? Reading, watching videos, or someone coaching me ? (poker is like physics it has theory but only going to learn better practicing, so playing is a must thing in your studying time).

To master the game you have to know all fundamentals and you only dominates them studying. So learning and playing are a perfectible coulpe.

I think practice is best. The more hands you see, the better to apply what you read. I like youtube tutorials from the pros. I apply what I can. Some people absorb more from listening than reading, I think it depends on the person,

I do not know if I will be alone but the books I do not understand them to study I watch videos because in the action it seems more exciting and entertaining .. the truth is that I do not know how to study poker .. I only see and try to learn different strategies. because for my way of thinking being a good strategist is the best benefit ... we can all wait for hours and hours but there comes a point where the hands have to be played because we run out of chips - so like me I always that happened ... try to start playing with hands that many would call variance .. and the results were seeing.

All that you can learn from poker books is only the rules of the game and the basic elements of poker. Everything else: strategy, skills and techniques, the process of thinking will be developed with the experience of the game. Poker is changing all the time and in order to understand modern poker you can watch a video, in which professionals tell what their decision making is based on.

I get what you're saying, but it's simply not true. There's a tremendous amount of valuable information regarding style and technique in many poker books. To think that they only contain the rules and basic elements is quite a disservice to the authors (Harrington, Sklansky, etc..).

I will say however that some people don't learn very efficiently by reading books. To be a good reader, it takes a lot of practice and dedication. If reading isn't your thing or if you struggle with reading, poker videos and other online resources are a better alternative.

Me personally, I prefer videos and tutorials but I do sit down with a poker book and take my time to absorb the information deeply. I enjoy when the author talks his way through a specific hand he played in an event where he used the information (tells and what not) at the table to his advantage to win the hand.

I find that books and various poker videos are also useful, as well as articles, comments, and more. But it is necessary to implement all the information received in practice. It is possible in freerolls, because in them you do not risk anything ....

But to choose materials that relate to those limits at which you play. Most strategies and concepts professionals hayroler simply useless to mikrolimits, for example.

This one is the real advice. The more you go up in stakes the more it makes sense all the book theory, but also the players are better and you risk being fooled. Then the experience comes into play.

Books or practice

Im just a beginner but when Im reading tournament books, I go apply what I read in a tournament. If Im reading a book about cash games I go apply the concepts in a cash game. I try to learn just a little and apply it everyday. If I read to much without applying it. It seems like I dont get the full benefit of the ideas, and the concepts dont stick with me.

I agree that there are some good poker books, but they were written 20-30 years ago. Information about the strategy and such elements as check-raise or c-bet belong to the basics of the game. This information will not give you advantages over current rivals. You need to learn to think more deeply and analyze the game in order to be competitive And as an example of thinking that needs to be developed, you can watch videos in which professionals talk about how they think before making a decision. That is what I meant.

I suggest watching wsop poker Academy videos. There is a lot of good stuff in them. Also I believe watching the various poker shows showing you live action is good. And if you can get out and experience a live game. You can get in some relatively cheap tournaments and a lot of casinos

Theory and practice

Exactly, if there is no practice - why theory?:) And to start practicing you need to learn the theory - without information how to play?

So what specific information is available only in videos and not in any poker book?

Reading books and going back over hands played is important. If videos are working for you use them as well.
