I would say 4.5 / 5 stars for both books.

I believe, Harrington has 3 volumes.

They deal mainly with the mental game of poker and learning. I think that would benefit beginners as well. I wouldn’t say they are targeted at beginners or any particular play level though.

Try Poker Math That Matters by Owen Gaines before you begin risking money.
It will teach you when your play is - or - EV and once you understand that book then i would forget Harrington as that is strategy from a long time ago.
Jonathan Little has written a good modern series on tournaments.
Tendlar helps you deal with the mental side of the game.

Low Limit Hold'em is the only book I can say definitively made me money.

I read that and absolutely destroyed live limit games by playing straight out of that book

I've always been a big fan of The Theory of Poker by David Sklansky. And if you like limit hold'em, then he also collaborated on Small Stakes Hold'em, great if you need very structured advice (it also has quizzes at the back to test what you learned). Super System 2 is good too, because it covers multiple game types as well as general advice. These are (relatively) older books, but the advice is still very relevant.

Poker books

I am currently reading Play Poker Like the Pros. It is a very good book for beginners. He really stresses playing good hand to start. He also talks about how to read players. This is not as helpful with on line play, but may help in live games. I am only half way through so that all I have on this book.

Poker Books

Another poker book that I have completed was The making of a poker pro by Matt Matros. I heard the book was expensive, but lucky my friend had it. It is a great description of how to go from the living room to big time tournament poker. It helps you understand how much hard work and study of different players really will help you in the long run.
